First real run out on Daisy

  1. Not a review a such as I cant be arsed to spout all night but I just thought I'd do a quick write up about my first real run out since I picked the bike up on Friday.

Well after the disappointment of yesterday I managed to get out for an hour this evening after having had Daisy on charge all day

I started a little apprehensively trying to keep it within the "running in" regime that Ducati recommend. And God it's difficult when your first reaction is that you want to ring its neck and have some fun

The only issue I had over the 50 or so miles I did, was that because of the more focused riding position over the R1 (and Blade, Gixer etc I've had in recent years) was that I was putting more weight on my wrists. However by the end of the run I seemed to have worked out how to position my arms so that it didn't hurt too much. I guess (hope) it'll just be a short matter of time that I'll have it sorted and it feels second nature riding her.

Funnily enough, though the seat feels hard, it is reasonably comfortable and I didn't have the onset of a numb bum at all. I used to have a ZX636R a few years ago and I couldn't do more than 50 miles on that as it was very harsh and felt like I was sat on a plank!

I did manage to throw her into some corners on the Woodhead Pass quite briskly and I now understand what people mean when they say it's like riding on rails. Excellent stuff :upyeah: Can't wait to be able to do it a little quicker

The quick shifter is an excellent piece of kit and saves your left hand on 40% of all gear changes. Some day all bikes wil be built this way.

When I got back I had to reset the clocks and switch the DTC back on as the battery failure yesterday had switched everything off. Bit of a pain, but nothing too troublesome.

All in all I would give Daisy and my ride tonight an 8/10. With the 2 points being lost to slightly achey wrists and the fact that I couldn't/didn't take it over 5k revs. But I fully expect to the score to get to 9/9.5 out of 10 very quickly once I get some proper miles under my belt

And despite the frustration yesterday I finally just stood back and looked at her before putting her in the garage. She is a work of art and I'm still grinning from looking at her in the evening sunshine :biggrin::biggrin:

  2. Dont ya go on :-D
Thought you were keeping it short and sweet

    Serious note great reading

  3. You sound as happy as I am with my 848. Wonderful bikes aren't they!

  4. Can you fit the 848sf seat? Totally different padding but I would guess fits?

  5. Dont know but it'd be interesting to find out.

    Anyone?

  6. Oh just do it properly n put a super pole or Ducati Performance one on.......:upyeah:

  7. And what's the difference between them and the standard seat?

  8. Comfort and grip....both of which the stocker lacks.

The sergeant seat is supposed to be good too, but I've never sat on one and they're expensive.

    The superpole

    And the Ducati Performance

  9. Christ they're not cheap are they? Even on eBay

Are they angled so you don't slide into the tank and bang your plums all the time?

  10. Ones soft ones not

  11. Nope....

The superpole is shaped for your spuds and the DP one is the same shape as standard but softer and the cloth is really grippy.

  12. I do extra exercises at the gym these days to increase wrist strength for riding the 999 as I'm just not putting in enough miles these days. Do about 5'000 or so a year and they'll soon beef up (as will forearms). Same for clutch hand. Sadly, just don't think I've got the time or the cash at the moment to have a 5'000 mile season. I used to do about 7'000 a few years ago.

  13. BTW - why "Daisy"?
Makes me think of Ermentrude in the Magic Roundabout - that flower she had in her mouth all the time.

  14. Dave just wasn't as catchy, I guess.

  15. Is the correct answer

  16. I have the DP it's a good upgrade but ProTwins to a reprofiled foam one that I think I'm going to try next.

The superpole looks to be higher and put more weight on the wrists

  17. Well so far the seat isn't an issue from a comfort pov. The wrists could be unless it's just whilst I get used to the more extreme riding position. What mod would I need to raise the bars, if I needed to?

  18. A part exchange deal on a 848streetfighter

  19. On 749/999 a mod is to swap the bars over. Don't know if it works on 848/1@98 models.
