Ducati 1098 Luggage/Tailpacks/Panniers

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by Craigieloon, Aug 6, 2012.

  1. Im planning a wee trip around the highlands and wester isles on the Duke.

Im just wondering in anyone else has had experience with various luggage systems and which ones have worked best for them.

I have a oxford humpback tank bag which i intend on using but i need a tail pack of some sort.

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

  2. Did 2500 miles last year abroad with a 20L and a 10L Kriega one on top of the other. Was away for ten days and held far more than I actualy needed. Fantastic in the wet and do not stick out either side. Well impressed. Bought them both second hand off the bay. IMHO exellent kit.

  3. im only away 4 days max so i dunno if i would need as much but i do plan on doing longer trips away.

How did they attach. Was it easy enough to strap down and did they move about alot.

    Thanks Steve

  4. +1. I use a 20L and 2 x 10L and a 3rd 10L on the tank for big trips, but the beauty of the set is you can add/remove bags as you need them, fully waterproof (rode through rain for 3 days last year with no probs. Straps go under the seat and I have had no problems with movement or slipping. My Avatar photo was taken last year by Lake Gruyere and you can see the luggage set up plus tent and sleeping roll etc.

  5. As Pat says. Straps just go under passanger seat or cowl. You can mix and match so have as much or as little bag space as you need. Straps tighten once you have clipped them on so little or no movement.

  6. I'd vote for the Kreiga tail pack / tank bag set up too. Although not on a Ducati, I've been all over with a US20 and/or US 10 on the back seat or with either on the tank. You really can't go wrong as the modular set up give you tons of flexibility. Not the cheapest, but they're ace.

    Would recommend them to anyone.

  7. I wouldn't bother with luggage then - you don't even need a change of undercrackers. Day 2 just wear them back-to-front, day 3 wear them the right-way-round but turn them in-side-out, and on day 4 in-side-out and back-to-front. You will need to find somewhere to put your credit card and your toothbrush though

  8. Kriega .....they are waterproof too!

  9. Pat!! How does the us 10 attach to the tank? Is there a separate base that you purchase?

  10. Haha... Brilliant Dave.... Lol

  11. You need a Kriega "Tank" harness. It's very subtle and easy to fit. Wee strip of Velcro under the seat at the back of the tank and it fastens around the headstock (from memory). Works well and is on and off quickly. No sign of it when the harness is taken off either. Think they're around £15.

I prefer fitting luggage to the pillion seat but the tank system works just fine.

  12. Myself, I think the kriega is the mutts nutts.

I am not long back from Germany. Used an 20 + 10 ltr bags, waterproof & solid.

The best luggage for a sportsbike imo, fits to rear seat. See pics, looks tall but aint.

Loaded 10 with 7 x smalls, socks & disck lock, shower grear.

Loaed 20 with 7 x tshirts, 1 jeans, 1 combats, trainers & rain bottoms, spare gloves.

I ran a little bit of insulation tape around the inner fairing where the seat attaches so the straps didnt grind on the paintwork as a precaution.

  13. Thanks mate. Went for the Kriega gear. US30 - decided if I need to add later I can but this will do for my trips just now. Much appreciated guys. :)

  14. I use a US20 on my Ninja, but im a little worried about melting the straps with the 1098, so I use my Kreiga rucksack instead

  15. Kriega every time...

  16. Looking at that pic, I think I might invest in another US10 to go with the 10 and 20 I already have when the time comes. Looks like it sits perfectly on the back of the 1098/848 shape!

  17. That was my original idea but as I bought them seperatley I got the 20L first and then the 10L. When I had a practice packing found I had loads of room. As I said in my first post took more than I used. With 40L you could stay away for a month.

  18. This is my system The case was part of a system I had on a Monster. I have a Ventura rack system so made a rack to carry the top box plate and it all sits nicely on the seat and the Oxford sports bags fit to the rack as well. Some might say why do that to a sports bike well cos I want to take it on Hols with me and for 2 weeks it really dont matter The other 50 weks of the year its a sports bike

  19. For anyone wondering re heat under the seat, the straps wont melt or perish.

got stuck in some major traffic in munich @ 35 degrees Cel & long stints for few hrs & straps were fine.
