999 "999 With R Spec"

Discussion in '749 / 999' started by RickyX, Aug 8, 2014.

  1. Because it's like 'no other' and really special - some one will realise it one day, before the magnesium paint chips hopefully ;)

  2. Right! I'm gonna ask a few questions and let you know what he says.
    This could be fun.

  3. He, do not bother 1037sps he is to stupid!

Someone should point out that his bike is as far from R spec as it can get.
Old style swing-arm, 848 show forks and brakes (just painted). It actually looks like just a half system not full system (right hand side panel has no paint bubbling :D). Rims who knows.
Most importantly it is a stock 999 from before engine re-work not even 999s or it would have ohlins forks.

Just tell him that below bike is better value for money especially that his needs a service (que service light).

    2005 DUCATI 999 - only 8000 miles - original bike - 99p start with NO RESERVE! | eBay

  4. Think they all must be advertised wrong - it says totally original bike so that would make it an S with the Ohlin's forks, but the S logo has dropped off the fairing? Also not a 2005 model but an 03/04 model registered late.

  5. Well I've asked for engine spec and his dyno figures along with a few other things. If the answers don't come as expected, SOMEONE ;) will be pointing out that his bike is far from R spec.
I know it's buyer beware but wouldn't you hate to be the guy thinking they're getting a great bike only to find a standardish bike tarted up a bit, maybe after a crash.

  6. Exige there was no engine difference in older models so it was only ohlins forks. However S was sold technically as monoposto. I have seen 999s with V5 and Ducati receipt stating 999s having biposto bodywork and S missing as result.

  7. And adjustable head stock. So if it has that it is more of an S then not

  8. I had an S on an 05 plate which was and 04 model later registered with 999S on the fairing and 999S on log book and MOT cert - his states 999 on the MOT cert so looks like a base model - engine spec was different between early base and S models - S had more power & deep sump motor.

  9. Highest bidder at the moment has zero feedback. Would it be suspicious of me to think this is a friends new account bumping up the price?
Oh, and no response to my question yet.

  10. I have asked for a list of all the R parts and if the magnesium parts are just painted :)

  11. Shall we collectively bombard him with specific 999R questions.
To start with I'm sure he'll be pleased with lots of questions from different users. But I'd think the penny will drop at some point.
    I'm going again :Woot:

  12. Did not look at the MOT so it is a 999. Still seen those leave factory with Ohlins but S would also have rear shock in Ohlins.

With regards to deep sump you certain as form what I know deep sump was an R thing until 2005 engine refresh.
Remember that very well due to Ducati advising against pooling long wheelies due to oil starvation :D

Uh also rebuilt a 2003 999s engine and it was not deep sump, it's exhaust fitted directly to my 749s at the time that was not deep sump 100%.
Maybe your late register 2004 was a parts bin special new engine, older swing-arm?

  13. Evil that one, you think he knows we are talking about him?

  14. Ok, so questions now added to his list and all asked on separate messages are:-
Does it have 999R 104mm pistons mista?
Does it have 999R 12.5:1 compression ratio engine mate?
Is it the 999R 58.8mm stroke motor buddy?
Does it have the black square section swingarm like a 999R mate?

Now i know the last one makes me look more stupid than i actually am, but it saturday night, i'm bored and hiding behind my computer to bully someone saves me getting beat up in the pub.

  15. Well, if he doesn't think somethings up by now, he will do by morning. I'm on wikipedia finding all the differences. LOL
Looks like i'm getting another one of my ebay accounts closed down. :Arghh:

  16. As far as I know all early S models had deep sump - not seen or heard of one without - anyone else?

  17. Nope..I had a 2003 999s and it had a grey Swing arm and deal sump ( I clipped it on a bit of curbing and the the screws were replaced)
Also some of the later bikes in 2005 were just 2003/4 stock re fitted with Öhlins forks and no rear shock and later fairing panels... But frame was grey. Some were even fitted with the later Swingarm or cash back was offered
    Example below-
    mobile.de

  18. mobile.de

Better example- grey frame, super bike Swingarm and updated fairing

  19. All 999 S had deep sump engines but none of the 749S had deep sump engines I think this is where people are getting mixed up. 999S had deep sump Ti conrods sharper camshafts and higher compression from the beginning . Only the R had deep sump in the 749 range .

  20. He did not know about deep sump.
