848 Looking At Buying An 848

Discussion in '848 / 1098 / 1198' started by Jack, Nov 5, 2014.

  1. Hi all,

Im looking at buying my first Duke and have settled on the 848, mainly because I like the under tail exhaust and although the new 899 is meant to handle better blah blah blah I just don't dig the new underbody exhaust systems.

I have been looking at getting a Corse SE, though the one I was 99% certain I was buying the dealer showed me a picture of the rear panel which has some kind of paint defect and Ive been put off. ( I've uploaded a pic so you can see) I can't figure out what would of caused this?!?

My question to any other 848 owners and duke owners is do you actually notice the difference between the 848 Evo and the 848 Evo Corse?

I will mainly be using it on the UK Roads, occasional trip over to Europe hopefully. As for track days that is on the cards though uncertain.

Any advice on an 848, what to look out for etc would be appreciated.

    cheers

  2. The SE comes with some nice extra bits from memory like bigger tank, ohlins shock and quick shifter. 2 of those are defo worth having. I know of a nice one just been px'd into Motorapido....

  3. Hi jack Dave
ET will be along shortly to convince you

Welcome to the mad house :)

  4. If you could be tempted by a non evo version my old bike is still for sale at cmc bikes. Its minter than mint. Fit some monoblocs/ ohlins/ and carbon wheels and itll be a awesome bike for same price ish.

  5. Hi Jack.

    Welcome along.

The Evo Corse does indeed have an aluminium tank (lighter and larger than the Evo), quickshifter, traction control and Ohlins rear shock. Its also got larger front brake disks (330mm) which are stonking and the powers up a bit to 140BHP.

That issue with the paint doesnt look right to me. Its as if its been crazed by having something blunt hit it.

The finish looks brilliant in the flesh and is easy to maintain. Ive always found that it splits opinion in terms of peoples reaction. I love it (I bought one) but others seem to think all Ducatis should be red ;-) The only issue is that you cant polish anything out and stone chips show up if they go through the finish.

I bought mine in the knowledge that there was going to be an 899 out later that year but I wasn't really taken with the looks of the Panigale and I liked the way it handled and rode on the road which was the most important thing for me. I like having what will most likely be the last of the trelis framed Ducati sports bikes and the underseat exhaust just looks 'right' to me. Even better if you can get one with the slash cut Termis.

  6. Having had the 848 Evo Corse SE and now the 899 I can categorically tell you that the 899 is the bike to have. Fact. :)

  7. I really like the evo corse paint scheme. I'd love to do my 1198 in that.

  9. id disagree. My 848 was better than a 899 imo. Better midrange, better brakes, better suspension, bettter sound. 899 was easier to ride, but not better.

  12. you have met him to?

  13. if you can stretch to a corse do it. The ohlins rear shock and quick shifter are probably things you would want in time anyway, I've spent a small fortune upgrading my evo ! And there is the traction control factor which is nice and its a corse which means women will sleep with you.

  14. The corse is indeed probably better but you can have just as much fun on a non evo. You can get a good non evo for £5,500 ish or even less...
Don't think you'd be disappointed either way.

  15. But then, if you're like @bettes, you have to spray it with superglue and ride it through a Ducati dealers parts dept to get loads of carbon parts to stick to it to upgrade it :)

  16. Not true! All my stuff's bolted on.

  18. ^^^ nice, but always make sure you clean under your belly pan if you are having pics done on track ;-)

  19. You dont have t with the 2013 model....Just another improvement they made ;-)

  20. AliT Your corse is def the colour scheme I prefer.

I enquired with the dealership and turns out the guy who owned the bike before caught the rear panel on a hand guard so that was what caused it. Wont lie it puts me off the bike, was thinking of saying to this dealer either replace the panel of knock the cost of a new one of the asking price. (anyone have an idea how much the new rear panels on a eve corse cost? and if you can even buy them still?)

Well I have a test ride booked for the weekend on both a 848 evo and a new 899. So out on the ride Ill swap over and get an ideal of which one I prefer. But without doubt I prefer the look of the 848 so Im going into it with my mind already made up lol
