1200 Finaly Got One

  1. I wasn't planning on getting a multi until next year but a chance ride over to ducati aylesbury last friday put an end to that plan 2010 in black with all the toys even ducati sat nav ( rebadged garmin unit ).

£9700 for a 12k miler with the big service all done, all the panniers loads of carbon and a nice long 2 yr waranty.

PX on my 2011 honda cbf was good as well £4700 which is £1k more than any other dealer was offering px and quite high if I had sold private.

Being 4 years old I'm not expecting perfection, the riders seat is currently doing its final bit of drying out in my airing cupboard as someone washed it and the seat appears to act like a sponge.

The idiot lights on the dash seem to have a random background glow, is this the precursor to a warranty claim for something worse with the dash or just something it will do but wont get worse ?

The ride home in 3 degree cold was impressive and after a tentative 10 miles in touring I whacked her in sport and had a play.

    So far:

The rear brake is terrible but reading the forum probably better than some.

I need to get a purely physical key made for my key neck lanyard for filling up and pannier access as finding the dongle key is a pita, having read a thread earlier I have the details and will get one done.

I need to spend several nights reading the manual so I know how the onboard gizmos work.

you cant adjust the angle of the levers as they appear to be located on a mounting lug, I'd like them at a slightly difrent angle.

engine is lovely, last twin I had was a firestorm and before that an sp1 forgot the instant romp that a large twin can deliver.

  5. Red one's are faster you know. :)

  6. aahhhh but black is very slimming and I need all the help I can get

  7. So you P/Xed your 2011 bike, added £5K to it, and bought a 2010 bike. In black. That was a very brave move, so congratulations.

  8. Get that Speedo changed NOW under warranty.....It is a sign of water ingress...at best it will remain the same, at worst it will make the machine unusable. Cost out of warranty is around £700 if you change it yourself.

  9. Oh and welcome to the fold....it's nice to see someone joining that lowers our average age...:Muted:

  10. thought that was my job?
    how do.

  11. right at the moment its just the indicator repeater led's and the fuel warning light and the fault showed up as a very faint glow which would have not been visable in direct sunlight after about 20 miles and even the it was very ocational, I'll get another couple of runs on it to confirm then have a chat with the supplying dealer.

Is the replacement an upgrade or a redesign or will it be a like for like swap ?

  12. the 2011 bike was a honda cbf

  13. I was wrongly under the impression it was an upgrade...but checking the part numbers it's not...it's a "like for like".

  14. Welcome and enjoy!

You can just pull the locating pin out with a pair of pliers, and turn the levers to suit your needs, it's only there to speed up assembly on the production line I think

  15. fantastic thank you guys most useful information

  16. Welcome!

Looks good in black and 2010 was the classic year with the most powerful engine :upyeah: (especially the red ones)

My instruments have had a similar faint glow for the last couple of years but it hasn't got any worse and doesn't trouble me (fingers crossed, touch wood...)

  17. spare "mechanical only" key ordered today but I cant seem to find a little neoprene pouch which I could attach to a lanyard to hold the hands free key.

so off to ebay I go ( this may be a bad idea )

  18. Ok guys quick update, pins removed and levers in a much better position for me ( thanks for the info Boomer)

The dash board idiot light glow only seems to occur when the engine is running, if I "wake up" the bike all is as it should be its only when I start the bike up that the flicker occurs and it seems more obvious at tickover rpm.

Battery voltage is fine at standby ( 12.4v) and with engine running ( 13.8v ) and with a ctek charger connected dash on engine off the flicker is not present ( 12.9 - 13.7 v)

I may be wrong on this but It may just need the connector in the back of the screen assembly re seating so....

With the bike shut down and the hands free key well away ( 5 mtrs + from the bike ) can the display screen be unplugged and then plugged back in again without issue or will this reset something or cause an error ?

I'm asking this as I think it may be a connector issue rather than an issue with the assembly itself.

I'm only going with what I know of other bikes from other marques so if I'm wrong please let me know.

the dealer is a 100 mile round trip on very boring roads ( or 125 miles on fun roads ) so if its a simple 5 min diy job and cant cause an issue I'd rather get it done and learn some more about the bike if not then its a trundle to the dealer.

  19. welcome and thanks - you've just reminded me my fence needs creosoting
