Judging by my wife's complaining about skyhook, I,m seriously thinking about the base model and getting the suspension set up, problem as I see it you now buy the base model then have to add touring pack etc and price starts creeping up, s model doesn't come with panniers so again base price is misleading. We will have to see when the costs come out
Base 2013 a cracking bike. No issues, great handling. Remote adjuster for rear shock easy to reach on the move if two up. Still came in a good £2400+ cheaper with heated grips and panniers. Also got the ABS and traction control as standard from 2013 so can see no reason to pay an over the top premium. Skyhook sounded like one step too far for additional technology/problems. Bet they (Skyhook models) end up being avoided like the plague when 3 years or more old, can picture some people converting to manually adjusted suspension tbh.
I hear you, my wife's sentiments entirely, we have it booked in to JHS to see if we can dial out the constant movement the wife feels at the back (I,ve played with settings but not much difference) otherwise its going and back to old school, question then is new or 2014 model.
Looking to get my first multi next year , problem is I've had a demo on a sky hook model , is it really 3 grand better than an ohlins ? I'll be touring two up etc just wondering would getting a ohlins model with the upgrade an up rated spring be a better bet ?and maybe a bit cheaper as well , appreciate any thoughts on the matter .
If these are correct, then £2,600 is a pretty good reason. I'm not too bothered with the bluetooth and colour display but the skyhook does work well especially under braking and on our terrible roads. Heated grips are a must but not sure if they can now offer these as an option (as they want to sell their packages....). UK on the road prices: Multistrada 1200 £12,995 Multistrada 1200S red £15,595
Been giving it serious consideration but having ridden the Skyhook against my '10 Öhlins machine in both custom setup and Mechatronic SCU mode and the uprated rear spring. I'm sticking with the Öhlins, thanks - I'll give the '15 machine a try when the demonstrators turn up, but suspect that I'll end up getting the swing arm repainted (finish is my biggest beef with these machines), a decat and CJS remap, buy a 748R with the change and carry on riding happily Curious though, what were other halves' views of the Skyhook?
My wife moans more if there's no luggage on the bike, she moans like feck if I hit a pot hole or a cats eye.
The demo ride was about 30 min solo then 30 min 2up , she said it was more comfortable than my blackbird , so I'm taking her word for it .
My wife hates the skyhook. She's 9 st with biking kit and complains constantly about the ride and constant feedback it gives her, makes her feel nausious. Had 2 blackbirds in the past and she loved them and zzr14, go figure!! We did Portugal and Spain for two weeks on my old Ohlins MTS and she loved it, going to go and try and get it set up professionally otherwise it's bye bye skyhook and back to old school manual ohlins MTS
Seriously feel like I am repeating my self, standard bike 2013, non Skyhook, non Ohlins. No issues. Toured two up with panniers and top box full through Germany, Switzerland, Italy and back. Increased rear spring preload with remote under seat adjuster to compensate for extra weight. Took around 5 seconds on the move. Also toured one up with just panniers. No problems. The standard bike is Showa rear and Marzocchi front. Skyhook not a requirement. Ohlins model had a too soft rear spring, so an upgrade needed for two up according to people running them. Have a read through the forum(s) and you will find other issues with Ohlins front end as well, though no mention of fork seals blowing, which was a common one on Factory Tuonos/RSVs. Hope this helps.
I sometimes wonder what is going on out there, obviously we are all different but after 25K miles on a 2013 Skyhook model I would NOT go back to Ohlin's etc. In those 25K It has been on Dirt tracks, Race tracks, up the Alps and Pyrenees, been loaded up, 2 up and solo - all combinations. The Skyhook has coped with everything and done it all at the press of a button. Coming from a 2010 Ohlin's S model it did take me about 2 months to get used to the feel of the bike with the Sachs Skyhook but once my mind dialled in to the bike it has been excellent. Fast bends in touring mode can make the rear wallow and the fix is to switch to Sport mode. Next time it will be another MTS (Hmmm - that BMW XR may have to be looked at!) but chances are it will be another MTS.
Sticking with my ohlins touring, but will try the new s when it's available, even if it's just to convince myself I don't want one. If I hadn't changed my bike earlier this year I would definitely be buying an s with touring pack. It would be interesting to know if the current top box mount will fit on the new bike... Also whether they will offer touring seats, maybe even heated
I love my SH. My missus loves the SH. Ridden in combintaiom of simgle rider and rider plus pillion modes. Simgle rider wallows a bit at speed but other one is spot on. She hasnt moaned about either and has fallen asleep on both...so cant be that uncomfy
It is her hobby, she giggles like a kid when the front comes up. Last week I thought I'd lost her off the back overtaking a removal wagon on my back wheel until I hear over the scala a roar of laughter followed by the word "your a naughty boy Joe" She's crazy.
