Hi guys,, Just acquired a 900SS, but for my tastes the stock cans are a bit too quiet. Loudness is not so much what floats my boat, more the deep throaty Double bass thump is what I'm after...Been looking at a set of vipers on the bay but also wondering what cans you guys would recommend. Also does anoyone with experience know what cans can go on these bikes from other bikes? Thought I might get a pair of good cans from another different bike and then just get some link pipes with the correct end diameter - but are there specific requirements for the Injection engine? I only ask because confusingly blue flame don't sell an injection model exhaust package only pre-injection and I was wondering if there was a specific reason for that?? Thanks in advance Fabs'
injection and carbed pipes are slightly different bends and do not intrerchange have ducati performance pipes amde by remus on my bike and absolutely no complaints what so ever about fittment quality or sound these apparently are no longer available new but turn up on flea bay from time to time other recommendations to quote local independant who has a dyno, any well known brand will work well and make no differnce to the power output compared to other afternarket pipes - find the best deal you can on fleabay I was then showen all teh dyno charts of other 900ss / 900 monsters that they had dyno'd all had rear wheel outputs around 81/82 hp The best they ever got was 82.5 with a set of termis, mine had 81.5 - they said that did not necessarily mean that termis were better Fast forward 3 or 4 years and I'm having problems with fueling but motor has lossened up and is now putting out 83.5 hp a gain of 2 hp just with the motor freeing up So power differnece between various brands of aftermarket pipes is minimal - unless the dyno is telling porkies
Ducati Performance / Remus is very good, Scorpion is popular as a more budget brand, SilMoto are good, Vipers are reasonable value. The brand of can won't have much effect on performance or sound, some will last longer than others, especially the carbon fibre ones - cheap carbon fibre degrades after a few years.
They do if you make up your own hangers.......I have 750 SS IE Laser cans with fixed link pipes (High level) on my carby 750 SS, but you have to remove the oulets and rotate them to point in the right direction (not a hard job). Also, carbon fibre (or fake carbon fibre) cans make a deeper note than aluminium ones..... If anyone ends up with the same issue, I have the hangers as jpg drawings or dwg files which can go into a CNC machine. AL.
In which case the angle of the hangers can be altered to accommodate the oval outlets, depending on which pipes / cans are obtained....... However, the job is much easier if the link pipes aren't fixed to the cans like mine were.......that means the can can (Folies Bergeres) be rotated to it's correct position without fiddling with the outlets. Of course, if the pipes and cans are high level, the other thing to remember is the pillion footrests.....Some MOT stations insist on them being fitted even though the OEM SS seat has the pillion cover in place......I got round it in the end. Paulk563 has low level Laser carbon cans for a Monster on his carby 750SS.......he could use pillion footrests with his set-up and all that needs doing is turn the outlets. AL
you can core your cans ,did mine and cut 100mm off they have a 63mm straght perfarated pipe down the middell and still have all the right numbers and stamps for the mot
Thanks for all the advice guys - I went for a pair of Pipewerx Hawks off the bay - with hangers and link pipes for 265 in the end - I'll make a video of before after when they turn up for future reference
Well really impressed with these Hawk Pipewerx cans - totally transform the nature of the bike! Ducati 900ss ie Supersport with Pipewerx Hawk Exhausts - YouTube For £265 delivered with link pipes clamps and removeable baffles what more do you want!? Highly recommended Fabs'
