  1. That looks soooo like the Multi, and red too! (looks like an Owl from the front though)

Should be quite a contest me thinks.

  2. New Multi = 160hp + 100ftlbs
    S1000XR = 160hp + 83ftlbs

    I've cancelled my S1000XR order.

  3. I just don't know, it is certainly going to be the toughest competition yet for the Multi but with FOUR cylinders. Cant wait to get them both out on the road.
Did he say 2nd quarter 2015? my friend ordered a S1000R with promised delivery in spring 2014 but BMW failed to deliver until end of the summer which will put me off (a bit).

  4. It's a frigging BMW !

  6. :upyeah:

I knew common sense would prevail. We now need you to speak to a couple of mates of Kirky and I to explain your decision !

  7. Does look a bit like a mutley, especially side profile. But front on its not as nice (looks more like a tiger explorer) and just doesnt do anything for me.

  8. seeing as how your lazy bartuards here's a pic for all us lots that had no clue what you were talking about

but your right it dose look pretty similar at first glance.
I wonder if the build quality and electronic reliability is better than the cheapo shite they put on the mutly?

  9. Wish they'd put the K1300S engine and shaft drive on it.

  10. Well Paul, we now know one cancelled order for the XR being replaced with a 2015 Multi for Feb delivery (sounds optimistic!). Now when will we get the prices?

  11. Some have said it looks "similar" to a multi, I am pretty sure the guy who designed this has had more than a quick glance at a Multistrada.

  12. Why this when they have the GS range ?

  13. Because the GS is not a direct competitor to the Multistrada, at least in my eyes. But this certainly is.

  14. The XR is a bloated first generation prototype. The R12RS is going to be the sweetspot. But will reserve judgement until tomorrow! The new Multi has the stats, now can it deliver?

  15. I'm lazy so wont post a picture of the white version...which I like
The torque is not the whole story though, what about weight, size, agility? For me the real test would be taking the BM down my favourite twisty road. With 160bhp on tap, then it would be a case of how good the bike handles, brakes etc. and not just roll on performance in mid range. Factor in a more compact bike overall with shorter travel suspension and it could be a real goer.
The red version does however look like a Multistrada copy.

No mention on cost either. Reports of £16k for new Ducati. The BMW 'should' start around £11-12k (that's just IMO looking at S1000R prices), So stick on the full Akro system and torque should be some what closer if thats an issue for you, with money to spare. Starts to look interesting I think.

  16. Headline power figures are good at 10k+ rpm, but less so on the road. The S1000 chassis is a good one, although short. If you wanted out and out handling, neither the XR nor Multi are the right bikes. An Akra on XR will never add 25% torque to bring it up to a standard Multi's starting point. But pricing will play a factor- BMW can be very aggressive with pricing, and the S1000R already showed that to be a relative bargain. On looks alone, the XR will never have me. Whether I'd pay the premium for the Multi is the question. In general, I think 20k for a normal road bike is simply too much, especially when a lightly used LC GS can be had for almost half that.

  17. Saw it at the bike show today. Did nothing for me just looked half arsed

  18. Will take a look on Wednesday. Did Ducati have the Scramblers on the stand?

  19. Separate stand for the Scramblers.

The SXR left me cold...looks horrible, was the designer in a hurry to get to the pub. Only saw 4 bikes I actually liked - one is just too expensive (Ariel Ace), one would never turn up (Norton 961), which leaves with a Monster 1200 or a K1300R as next bike.
