I've got a stinking cold and aren't doing much. In fact, while I'm not doing much, I have been catching up on the Elm Guest House conspiracy theories. Just when you think you've got your teeth into a good one, you find that it's been hatched by someone like David Icke (he of the shape-shifting lizard leaders fame) or the completely delusional Michael Shrimpton. So God knows what really went on at the Elm Guest House or who amongst the purported visitors ever went there. But I can't help feeling it was a little less lurid than what some internet commentators would have you believe.

Sure. It was definitely a brothel of some description, and quite possibly a place of systematic child abuse. But who really attended? And did they really make child snuff movies there? That is a lot less certain. There are plenty of people telling stories, but they can't possibly all be firsthand (as regards all the details they appear to "know"). So where are the other details coming from? And is there any documentary evidence at all? When people claim that snuff videos were circulating, you'd expect at least a few of them to have been seized. As for Ted Heath being given kids from Haut de la Garenne on Jersey by Jimmy Savile, abusing them and then having them bumped off and dropped in the sea... well. It's not very likely is it? Especially when the story is "revealed" by a guy who was prosecuted for wasting police time by pretending that German Intelligence was going to blow up the London Olympics with a nuclear warhead recovered from the Russian submarine Kursk. You couldn't make it up, except that he did.
