Exige This anything to do with you  Never seen one like this before, Ducati Prototype 944 Superlight/Supertwin R RS
Seems it's at the other end of being a Prototype - built after the event with permission from Ducati if I read correctly? By Troll, so not a Ducati but a special - interesting one, but a special all the same.
I like the shape but not the headlights. Hard one to put a price on as not seen one before, should it be half that price ?
It's a bit of a hash up when reading it again, so on a search with Ducati it will come up as a standard 750SS - I guess it would be worth less than a standard Superlight (£3 to £4K) which it purports to be a prototype of, in a very loose way indeed. Unless of course, someone thinks otherwise and splashes out thousands on it
" A donor (crashed) 750SS was purchased to supply a frame number (Troll professionally dot stamped the number into the new frame) and engine etc to start the build . " Is that legal . sounds like cloning to me . Sort of .
If they had permission from Ducati to make them, surely they would have been given them a frame number - or at least Troll should have given them a special Troll number - does sound odd, and probably not legal as you say.
I suppose people do buy a new chassis for a morgan and the likes and I know that in the 50s and 60s you could buy a new frame for your norton / triumph etc that came unstamped for you to put your frame numbers on . So maybe its not as illegal as first thought .
Probably is if it's a different frame design and different manufacturer, especially for the insurance...
