899 New Conrods?

  1. why ??,, because I would say the crank shaft is no " small " part, rather a major component of the engine / bike

  2. And the reasocould be one of the above. Better design, better performance, chepaer production method or longevity

If we took the attotude that a change of a mjaor part is because the last one was wrong in some way, you wouldnt see any engine development

  3. but if you put the two together, major engine update within first year of production and rumours of related failures,,, mmm , I smell a rat tat tat !!

  4. So who would know, what dealer is most in touch with Ducati to find out why it was changed and that would say why ?

  5. yes,,,, and who would say why ??:Muted:

  6. Well, I know a few and havent heard of any first hand. I know of a few race bikes that have, and all (that I know of) have been built by a small number of dealers and blueprinted or otherwise messed with, allegedly

So how much are these failures, btw who has had one who comes on here? the product and how much the product of preparation and search for the best performance?

Anyone hea about s1000rr gearboxes? Gs1200 balancer shafts? Fireblade clutches?

  7. It has no less or more importance than a tiny valve collet.

  8. I think if my crank was to give out a valve collet would be way down my list of worries

  9. Unless that collet caused your engine to lunch itself

  10. a bit unlikley

  11. More orless unlikley than a cracnk smashes itself to pieces?

For mechanical numpties like me, how does a major peice of metal like a crank fail? Shed shavings which cause swarf and work into other areas?

  12. S1000rr s had crank change early on .

  13. Was talking to the dealers about this the other day,as far as they know only a few race bikes have suffered crank/conrod issues and as Bradders pointed out these have been stripped blueprinted etc, note the crank has been revised, note the 899 challange bikes are now allowed to change the conrods not the crank,so i would assume rightly or wrongly the conrod is the issue,as said before maybe the crank changes are just a natural development.

  14. Carillo rods being fitted to a race 899 at JHP today.

  15. Really? Looking at the rules Nicky posted, they are not to be other than standard??! Or so the rules suggest.

  16. I guess there must be a rule change for 2015,why else would JHP put pics up on face book with different conrods in the 899 cranks, may well be a customers bike tho, never thought of that:Eggonface:

  17. Dunno. Maybe its an interpretation. Cant remove or add material or knife-edge...well they are nit, they are replacing with what must be a better item. Rules are there to be stretched, eh ;)

  18. So how much will it cost to change con rods? Any guesses??

  19. rules fuk all mate if you are by the side of a motorway with oil pourin oota yer sump !!
