Just looking at some bits and pieces that I can get people to contribute towards off santa and I know that the majority of manufacturers have now copied the RSV4 and are now either fitting or producing only matte carbon ( The RSV4 was the first bike I saw with matte carbon ) In the past my bikes have had gloss carbon which does look great but is gloss now a bit 'Yesterday' and is matte the preferred choice nowadays ? Looking at pictures the gloss does actually look 'expensive' looking if you know what I mean while the matte looks a bit like someone forgot to finish it, there again does the matte look more modern ? I like both and am unsure what hugger to go for, once you buy something you are stuck to that finish. I could buy a few things while looking as I get a discount but am starting with a hugger I think. What are peoples preferences ?
Not being awkward but I nearly always end up preferring satin if it's available but if had to choose between Matt and gloss then it's Matt
Yep I agree with @Chris. Matte or Satin finish. Speak to Steve at @Conquest Carbon. He does some really nice stuff and was able to do a satin finish hugger for my 848. Gloss would have looked all wrong!
Topolino's panigale project looks awesome in full gloss but that has had £1000's thrown at it. I only want a few bits and have a satin part already that I picked up so it may be the satin/matte route.
Its all satin on mine but surely it's down to ur personal taste, if ur spending the money have whatever u like, it's all good in my opinion just don't mix it.
All down to personal taste, I prefer gloss everytime and IMO matt and satin looks unfinished and not much better than the standard stuff its replacing.
Gloss for me as well, matt / satin is too dull and does not bring out the weave in the carbon fibre, doesn't look any better than the polyprop it replaces, so why bother? Top end road cycles are going the same way now as well, they look sh1te, dull as dishwater !
It's right about the satin not really looking any different to the standard plastic parts. With the gloss it does look like you have replaced a part. Always had gloss in the past on all my bikes, except the rsv4.
I think the satin looks different enough and is a subtle addition to the bike rather than screaming 'LOOK! ITS CARBON!' All down to personal preference.
