Hi I need some one I Mac and I phone 4s savvy as I'm old and struggle with this kind of thing.. I've just at last, managed to get a workshop manual cd for my Ducati.. I can view it ok on the I Mac but that's fixed in my study... Is there a way I can get this file/files to my I phone? So I can view it in my workshop.. I have tried by using I tunes but as yet no luck.. Thank you.. N@@DS
I have the Owner's book for my MTS in pdf format on my phone. I use an iMac and have a Samsung Android phone. It was just a case of connecting the phone with a USB cable and dragging the file onto the phone using Android file transfer. Obviously with an iPhone the method will be different. Does the iPhone mount on your desktop as a USB disk? If all else fails you could email it to yourself as an attachment, pick it up on your iPhone and save the attachment.
I'm guessing the workshop manual is in HTML. Google 'view local HTML files on iPhone' and you may find your answer if it can be done.
It's going to be big! If you've not got one, get a dropbox account and upload it to there. You can then download the Dropbox app on the phone, log into that and hey presto your manual will be there
Ok.. I now have the drop box on my I phone... What's next? Do I need one on my I mac too? Sorry for being hopeless on this kinda thing...
I've got drop box set up on my mac and phone.. I've dragged the disc into the drop box on the mac ... But although the file shows on db on the phone it says this type of file cannot be opened?
This is the Dropbox screen which shops the Ducati disk at the top.. This is the contents of the Ducati disc on my I mac when you open it up
Firstly, the file in your Dropbox isn't a copy of the disc, it's an alias to it. Note the little arrow at the bottom left corner. On your Mac it will point to the disc and open it when you click it but on the phone there is no disc there. On the Mac, delete the alias and then drag the disc icon to your dropbox folder while holding down the alt key. This will create a copy of the disc in the dropbox folder. Within the disc, clicking on main.html will normally open the manual within a browser window, Safari, Chrome, or whatever you use. That should also work on your phone. If you have any problem click on the folder called wsm, then en. then the file home.html . Hopefully that should work.
There is never a six year old in the house to help with computer problems when you need one, is there?
It's often said I act like a six year old... My dear old Mum used to say it.. Then once married.. Her in doors joined in.. X
Close but no quite.. When I open up on my phone as per Derek's instruction this is what I get.. Then when I try to open it even by the em method I get this below.. Blank..
Derek you've done great just to get this far.. Your a star.. At least it's there on my phone now even if I can't see it. X
Which version of iOS are you using? Is the software on your phone up to date? You could try downloading the Adobe reader app onto the phone too. It looks like it's trying to open it as an HTML file rather than as a pdf
The files in the manual are all html except the parts list which is a pdf. It seems that to view html files in a Safari you need a 3rd party app like Goodreader.
