Would You Buy An Ex-demo?

  1. Yep, depending on the price. Another good option is to watch dealer stock in his showroom. Some decent discounts can be had for something that's been hanging about for a while. It'll be brand new with a full warranty.

  2. I did tell you to check if Bradders had tested it first ;)

  3. Good god no .. some random Jap bike rider may have ridden on it therefore its not been cosseted by some brand whore who only polished it but never rode it !!!

  4. Ask an engine builder. Run in on the dyno for a reason, and its not at silly low rev either ;)

  5. May I ask, when you have test rode a bike in past, have you pushed on a bit to see what it actually can do, or just go a tiddle around the local roads?

  6. I ride it like I ride kine, tbh less so actually. I may occasionally power wheelie mine, I dont try that on a demo. I ride mine sometimes to the edge of grip. Again dont do that on a demo. Also use mine on track, most bikes in the last 7 years, another dont do on track

But thats only me, so I'm safe to follow ;)

  7. I would not buy a Ducati demo that has been though a winter,of test rides.

  8. Yes I would and have. Big saving compared to new other 6 month old bikes for sale.

You usually don't know how any bike has been ridden before you bought it anyway.

Maybe worth looking out for pre registered but 0 miles bikes if your worried about how it's been treated but still saving some £££

  9. My 998 that i bought was a demo, never had any probleme with it.

    Henk!!!

  10. i always try and buy ex demo, both cars and bikes. Never disappointed.

  11. All logic would suggest that you shouldn't ( to me, at least )...
But, having said that, I bought my ST4 as an e-demo with 1300 miles on it. That was in 2001 and 35000 miles later I've still got it - OK, so it's a complete shed and it's not been 100% reliable, but that's entirely down to me abusing it...
You take a chance buying an e-demo, but you take a chance buying anything Italian any way. If you get a good deal on it, I'd say go for it...

  12. thanks. it makes sense.
JR45 I am Italian, and find your comment "you take a chance buying anything Italian" rather stupid, racist and ignorant.
    have a nice day!

  13. You may find a use for this .

  14. didnt see anything racist in it, being in the trade and a bit of an Italian engineering fan i hear that comment daily. it,s so 20 years out of date.

  15. Dam, you have found my pseudonym. Thanks for that.

  16. Much depends on the bike. I doubt anyone here can seriously thrash an 1199 on the road. A 125 Yamaha on the other hand would be a different game altogether.

  17. Oh yes you can! I remember taking out a K5 for a 'test' when they were released. Now that was fun!!

  18. Hmmm... I had no intention of being racist - far from it; it was not a comment aimed at the people of Italy in any way. I was merely passing on the benefit of my experience which is that Italian bikes have, historically, always had a slight problem with reliability. If that bothered me to any extent, I wouldn't be riding a 15 year old Ducati and a 13 year old Laverda. As I've said before, it's called "character"...
I also said that yes, I would buy an ex-demo...
( and just as an aside... how do you know that I'm not Italian ? )

  20. That pretty harsh. Every ducati is delievred with that awful dry lube crap and looks crap on standard chains. My chain looks covere in crap too, not gold and analy shiney, but underneath its well pubed and the rollers are perfect, exactly as it should be
