Ducati 2015 Range - New Prices Announced

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by El Toro, Nov 20, 2014.

  1. always had a figure of around mid five due to being prety much of the shelf parts with little development costs but figured they would sell at 6 in line with the "premium" brand thing going on.

  2. Fpmsl yeah go buy a Rolex watch, Its off the shelf parts, should cost the same a seiko

  3. a man in your position knows exactly what i mean.
old engine possibly where most development costs are these days. (due to emission control)
nothing fancy about the chassis, wont be competing in anything other than stature at the local cafe.
    no new electronics.
nice wee bike but i aint seeing nearly 7k in it.

  4. And new tech 1299 will set you back 20 large

  5. One of my best friends is IT Director for Timex. They make all sorts of watches for premium brands as well as their own brand cheap watches.

According to him the parts are all from the same "shelves". The labour costs are the same. The build quality is the same. The attention to detail is the same.

The inflated selling prices for the "premium" brands are down to "perceived" brand quality and the power of marketing.

Ps. To those that don't understand marketing and the costs involved, marketing is vitally important. How else would you explain the reason why people buy Coca-Cola? ;)

  6. 16k before vat. might be down to numbers i guess .
that matise looks not unlike the pursang i had back in the day, apart from the motor. obviusly.

  7. one of my customers allan anderson,(nice but tight) owned a design/engineering company in glasgow a few years back he mentioned he did some design work for rolex, he is regular i will ask him what he thinks

  8. And thats the point. <6k go buy a honda

  9. was hoping mr ducati would be watching and maybe cut me some slack. :upyeah::smile:

  10. It's irrelevant comparing foreign prices to those here. Corporate marketing and pricing know their markets pretty well, have seen local customers vote with their wallets in volume, and would have researched enough to know better than us keyboard warriors. If you really prefer the pricing elsewhere, go buy it there and bring it back. But the Scrambler is a sound bike, even if it is basic tech. The latest tech is available too, but at a price.

  11. Having started the question about the price comparison/differentials it then dawed on me that not only did currency exchange rates have an effect but local and federal taxes actually had a greater effect on the final price. And because of the global world we now live in the question of price differentials is less of an issue than it perhaps once was. It seems and looks to me that end user prices have been smoothed out because of that.

  12. And buyers disposable income in foreign markets is not the same as it is here. Local demand/supply will dictate price levels that can be realistically supported. In a liquid market like North America, I have no doubt that Ducati have priced them to be remain both aspirational but affordable enough to maximise market share.

  13. Maybe they have a bunch of old parts in stock that they need to get rid of. It's priced to sell in numbers. ;)

  14. I imagine volume comes in to the price equation also, they are not churning out hundreds of thousands a year (in Honda's case now over 300,000,000 bikes in total).

  15. Yes, but look at the price for the Multistrada S! £15,595!!! and that's without all those bloody extra malarkey bits!... that's fucking OBSCENE! I want one, but can I justify it?!...(answers on a postcard please)

  16. Agree that is obscene. DUK want a word with themselves on this, as its probably over a grand fo luggage and the grips (if they arent included either) so a big price increase

  17. I think where the scrambler is concerned, Ducati is trying to attract a 'certain' customer. This has become more evident with all the apparel that has been launched to go with the bike. It's all vastly over priced but is all very cool to a certain sector of society in the same way a Fiat 500 or Vauxhall Adam is. I think we're going to see a lot of brown leather jacketed, goggled, piss pot helmet clad arseholes (sorry cool people!) riding round inner city having just passed their tests inorder to get on the band wagon. I think I'll just remain uncool with my Pani and old SS!.

  18. They are trying to pull the same stunt as Harley. Giving the bikes some sort of uber kudos and then charging us for the privilege. Whilst this might've washed for the 888/916/999/1098 which earnt kudos on the racetrack and hence why SP's etc are desirable today, I'm afraid the equation for the Panigale does not balance. They're at least 5k overpriced. Throughout the range. If the bike becomes special, wins everything, then they can release specials and charge me more. Until then they can fuck the fuck off. I'm not buying it. Literally. Nuts to you with your nice dash and pretty ass but until you go all the way I aint paying you a cent more. I can't pretend to be world champion on a bike that was lucky to win the trip-options cup.
