Hi. First post after a long break as a Ducati owner.... I sold my white 848 in 2011 and have regretted it every day since.... please let me come in from the cold?! So, to redeem myself, I'm just about to take delivery of my new white 899 and I am trying to decide the best way to secure it. I'd be grateful for opinions/advice on the options I have narrowed it down to (by the way, my insurance company specified that is must have a Sold Secure device (of any kind) fitted): 1). Bike Trac & disc lock (will be Sold Secure Gold).... alarm or not on disc lock? Is this the best tracker? 2). Pragmasis 19mm chain, Squire lock & Torc ground anchor (see link below). If I go down this route then I may well look to fit one of their "anti-pinch pins" - a solid bar that slots through the entire rear axle - but I would need some help with a close-up photo (as I don't have my bike yet) and whether or not you could even pass a "broom handle diameter" pole through the middle of the rear axle. Strangely I didn't look too closely when I was buying the bike - my eyes didn't get past the front end - the back end could be held on by bodge tape for all I know!!! Anti-Pinch Pin - Big Chains and Tight Spaces Thanks in anticipation of the help. Jamie
I went biketrac. Figured bike alarms are pointless these days as no one pays attention to them. First time ive seen those pinch pins. Look quite cool.
Yeah - locked garage. In practical terms only one of the options will reduce my insurance premium. Both would be overkill and very expensive - I have to get some "value for money" from my insurers.... apparently most of the premium is based on the risk of theft for these bikes. Cheers again thieving pikeys.....
quite a few of us use pragmasis chains and pins. if you have any queries steveat pragmasis is extremely helpful so i would just give him a call.
Hey, I like that anti-pinch pin thing. I'm having one of those, thanks for the heads up. I'd say you are going the right way with dirty great chains and anchors. Personally, I always sink my ground anchors in concrete. I had a 999S nicked a few years back and the little rascals just pulled up the rawl bolted base plate like a carrot. All 4 rawl bolts snapped!
Tracker defo the way forward esp with easy availability of cordless disc girders bastards can get out even if bolted down . Nice suprise when u come knocking when tracked
Go for the cheapest for your insurers needs, as if some one want's it and they know what they are doing they will take it. I have my garage in the back garden, 7 foot side gate with no other access - double huge padlocks, gate is armed with vibration as well as pin lock sensors to the house alarm. Garage roof is strapped to prevent entrance through where rood could be lifted. Castle Bar Beams on front doors, bolted top, middle and bottom into concrete - 5 vibration / pin lock sensors / some PIR's and triple bolt Fire Door on the side. IF you are serious about security stop them getting in as once they are in it has gone, simple. Tracker seems a good idea - not up to speed on how good and what thieves do as they become more popular, no doubt they will strip on the move and keep the re sellable items and ditch the rest I guess.
I read one got tracked to Poland an lad got it back . On down side been told your ride speed etc can also be tracked .
Good point - how long before the law forces access to the data - or can they now? Mobile phones too I guess though...
Defo I phones left a home ha . I know you can track your own route and if your bike is leaning over on certain angle to long it notify s either designated person or authorities good if ride solo .
Plod can already have access to the data if you are involved in accident. Most modern cars and a few bikes already have GPS tracking inside the electronics.
I packed in using sports bikes on the road. Too much twitchy bum with 'big brother'. And all the other inconsiderate bastards that wanted to use the roads at the same time as me.
I went with the Bike Trac in the end. Good advice from SissyMc7.... and the extra cost will be well worth it if (fingers crossed it doesn't) got nicked for the look on their faces....... I'd make sure to film the collection and upload ! For what it's worth, I contacted Pragmasis too.... as JC749 says, they were extremely helpful. They are producing a new batch of specific Ducati "Anti-Pinch" pins next week - I just needed something sooner. Looks like a really good product though. So, in sum.... Bike Trac £400 (fitted) with additional £99 subscription (per year) and Xena X2 Disc Lock (SoldSecure Gold) for £30 from Amazon. Done. Thanks for the help. Jamie PS. Any other owners in the North Yorkshire area? Is there a thread by region on here?
Few us from newcastle Jamie rode lot north last year but last few months had some great days stokesley Helmsley way and moors .
BikeTrac is a great piece of kit. Big benefit is that the bike is protected when you're away from home as well as when it's tucked away in the garage..
Good choice on the Biketrac, I had to have one fitted to my R for insurance and haven't regretted it. I've also got a pinch pin and two ground anchors.
Is the Xena X2 Sold Secure ? I thought it was only the alarmed ones ? thinking of getting one myself that's all.
Ello mate. I'm just outside squires in Leeds so not a million miles away. Don't tend to visit north Yorkshire due to the police Gestapos you have up there.
