I have always been a bit worried about the huge angle of lean when parking my 998S, it seems to me far too much, and due to the weird forward angle of Ducati sidestands, there seems to be a bit too much bending force. I can forsee problems when they come to strap it down on a ferry. I either need to change it for a longer one off another model, anyone know a compatible longer one? Or get a bit welded onto the bottom. Is it just me or is this normal?
I have heard of people being concerned, bu it would prefer it being at a decent angle than more upright.
With Cycle cat having been reborn their DKS range of replacement side stands are now available. It looks like you'll need to phone them but it's worth a shot if you are really worried about the existing stand
I do agree too much is better than too little , but the other day I parked on a camber and after hopping back on couldent get the bike upright Now the Dike is as light as a feather compared to my Triumph, so that prompted me to look at the options.
I checked their website and its showing the only one available for a Monster, any idea if it will fit the 998?
I have cut mine just below the spring fixing, then drilled and taped both pieces , then fitted a lengthy of 10mm rod and lock nuts, I have a fully adjustable side stand. Will show pics later. Steve
I fitted a 1098 stand to mine. It needed a little welding where the stand rests againt the mounting bracket so that it didnt sit to far forward when down and the foot was at the correct angle to the ground. Never liked it resting on a 12 yr old piece of worn out alloy at some silly angle. But have seen people swivel their bikes round on them before....... So they cant be that weak.
The site also shows fitment for 996/s/r models so it should fit a 998 Equally MOT testers use the side stand to check the head races and there have been instances where the stand has snapped because of them pivoting the bike round the side stand. So they are not that strong.
side stand from a Mito could be just the job as it is slightly longer. It does need around half an hour of fettling to fit though. EDIT (as appears to be overlooked) I fiitted my first Mito sidestand to a 748 around 4 years ago as the original was so worn. My rear ride-height was fairly average so stand was slightly too long if parked totally on the flat. It's also aluminium, very similar to original and it's slightly sturdier.
I have a Cycle cat stand on my 916, good quality, stronger than the original and stops the excessive lean. Slingshot Racing also make one that looks identical. Slingshot Racing : Ducati CNC Billet Kickstand Side Stand - $149.99
Eyore, mine was really leaning over like yours. Just check your fixing and bracket for cracks before buying a new stand. I actually got a mate to weld a ~20mm block under mine. Looks a bit like a golf club/orthopedic shoe now... But sits pretty....
Thanks Nelson, will check for cracks, had considered welding an" orthopedic shoe" on all right, certainly cheaper than $150.00 but then again maybe $150 is cheap compared to the side stand giving way
It's the plate that bends between the engine and the stand, although the actual does look a bit flimsy too, simple fix
Don't know why some lean like a leanie thing...? I checked mine for cracks and all was well. This was before the Op.
I suppose the lean has a lot to do with the rear ride height. PS glad to see you moved the bike off the double yellow lines:biggrin:
Fiddled my ride height up and down, then up and down some more. Even down at the lowest it was still leaning over too far! Wasn't on the lines long, just long enough to have a wee behind a near by bus stop....
