I am aghast at how quicky they learm circuits, which was clear crom Martin doing the pike peak this year
This is sort of ok except that peoples abbility is often very good however they underestimate how a mountain race circuit can and will catch you out, it was designed to test man and machine. The topography and the fact that 80% of the corners are blind catches everyone out eventually allbeit slow or fast riders. Even if you take away the cars that are normally there, bikes still crash, even known German police riders crash there when on training duties. My best advice is if you can, get a lift round in a car driven by someone recommended to you then, if you still want to ride it do so very cautiously and stick to the right hand side of the track. treating every blind corner with extreme care. Use your mirrors before you get to the corner, mirrors mid apex, and mirrors on exit. If you can't do that then slow down as you will crash. Lived here for 8 years and have seen every sort of accident immaginable.
Well I did suggest making an early start and being at the start line at 8.30 am before the 'Ring opens, but that idea did not find favour you may recall. So by the time we got there hours later the whole place was heaving and the track was (predictably) closed as a result of the (inevitable) crashes.
Beer, banter and a late night is far more importa t than an early start Pete,,.we're on our holidays!!

Bradders never a good time early or first thing, damp track, and lots of people get ther eearly hoping to be the first out to an empty track,and often accidents early too
On one occasion I actually was the first out on an empty track. I got in four laps before it started to get busy. And I was going so slowly on the first lap that the fact it was slightly damp was neither here nor there.
Not always damp first thing. many a time i have rocked up at the gate at 08-00 and banged in ten laps before the hungover brigade leave their hotels !-) Normally a few die-hard GT3 owners as they also know the score. Empty tracks heaven.
Group of us used to go to Germany all the time and stay in the locality. The roads are awesome and generally empty in comparison to the uk. Visited the ring several times and I'm with boots on this. Got there, brother went out did it with few mates one who promptly smashed himself up and his bike to pieces, ring was closed he had to be recovered to hospital as did his bike. Waiting to find out what had happened and if it was my brother as he stopped to help. Nope that was enough for me, put me right off. Love visiting and watching, my sense of self preservation over rules any tiny amount of talent I don't have. But I love the area and watching others do it, and of course beer and curry wurst .
