  1. there is one for sale 24k? sounds a lot are they that good?

  2. At £24k this is only £6k down from new list. However this makes a 1098R at £14-£15k seem like good value in comparison surely ?

  3. Depends on how good you are ;)

  4. isnt it just an R? Is there any diff between a 1098R and an 1198R?

  5. I think the motors are the same ? could b wrong like looks mint , but overpriced to me,

  6. Same bike apart from paint job and poss an ally tank.

  7. I think so. The 1098R has traction control that's initiated from ignition cut which means you end up with unburnt fuel when it kicks in. This is all fine and dandy as long as you don't have a cat con in your exhaust. I think the 1198R, due to emmission law has a cat con so uses a fuel cut system. I think that's the only difference but I might be wrong. But I doubt it cos I'm a right clever twat.
I'm pretty sure the engines are the same. Apart from mine of course, which is the fastest in the whole wide world:D

  8. where is it for sale BTW?

  9. think its metropolis ? London, on biketrader , to much for me to pay,

  10. Is it silly season on old bikes or are the prices generally going up.I see this 1198 corse R and others like bostrom rep for close on 14k foggy reps for 30k and think wtf.Even the 916/996 sps prices are starting to take the piss now.

A used non corse 1098R seems a bargain lately.

  11. I see the asking prices going up....the bikes are still for sale though!!

  12. That's been for sale a long time. Fairly high mileage for an R. Dunno the history but dealers can't shift it.

  13. yep and panni prices are been slashed and gonna be worse next year ,

  14. To be fair that 1098R in link is due a big service at 15k miles I think.Hmm expensive maybe.Still ive seen lower miles examples in good condition fetch 14-16k on fleabay during the last 18 months.

Seems like a real bargain compared to that corse R or alot of foggy reps out there.I always think the 996R and 998R prices are a bit of a joke also compared to a 1098R.

  15. They can "ask" all they want...[IMG]

  16. The surprising thing to me is the two 999R's this year going up for £14K at main dealers and seemingly selling within a few weeks - one standard red and one Fila - as much as a 996R fetched at an Italian Specialist this year.

  17. If 999R 's are worth 14k I can see a steep rise in 1098R prices to 18-20k soon. You would have thought buyers will pay more for the newer bike. When 1098 was released I remember the guys at my ducati dealer were genuinely surprised how many of there customers immediately chopped in there 999R after test riding the 1098.If the standard 1098 was that much more impressive the 1098R will murder it.

    If a good 1098R is worth say between 14k - 16k at present I would have thought 999R is worth 12k tops 996R/998R 10k tops and 916/996sps 8k.

There are some good prices out there though on other models.999S/ 1098S and 1198S seem like real bargains compared to the silly season on SPS/R models.

  18. Matt you have it arse about face. The older they are the more they are worth. Regardless of performance. Its nostalga that buyers pay for.

  19. Was just going to say that, although 998R's seem to be at the top of the tree, then 996R's,followed closely by 999R's then SPS/SP's - with 1098R's still dropping at around £14/15K (but probably bottoming out sooner than the others did on percentage terms to new price). R's have historically dropped to 50% of original value before increasing for mint examples (Ducati Manchester's opinion not mine but it does appear so).

From what I have seen recently:
    998R - £16/£17K
    996R - £12/£14K
    999R - £10/£14K
    1098R - £14/£15K

I think the wider spread seen with 999R's is due to them being 'on the turn' and people willing to pay a premium for ultra low mileage before they are snapped up by collectors.

  20. I do regret selling my 999R and yes they've gone up and up since I sold it. The valuation aside it was a gorgeous bike all round. Looks, performance and handling.
I've now got a 1098R. A different animal altogether but equally excellent and very involving. This is my last blast with a daft bike which is why I chose the 1098R. And I won't make the same mistake again, I'll keep this one. I'm pretty sure it'll become THE R for collectors. Last in the line and all that. Plus the characteristic savage power delivery. The Daddy!
