  1. Ok after some soul searching following some comments from our brothers "North of the Wall"

I've decided that I haven't seen enough of the UK.
Anyone fancy joining me on a tour of Scotland.
I know we can't do it justice in 4 or 5 days, but it's more than I've given it in the last 48 years.

Suggestions of Bike friendly B&B / pubs and the best roads and places to visit.
My intention is a brisk trip through the built up bits and slow to enjoy the views.
I was thinking what ever week they normally have their Summer.

If we are clever enough we could join in on one of their meet ups.
I'm looking for hardy souls and at least one rider who can speak the lingo.

Anyone for a Square Sausage breakfast?

  2. best drink shandy with their new drink drive laws

  3. I've been dry for just over two weeks, for no real reason.
Just decided that my local was full of negative thinking people and I'm feeling a great deal more positive about the world.
    So no hardship.

  4. fair enough

and there is great riding and scenery up there

  5. Through the borders theres a nice road that follows the tweed nice n twisty but then again no good for me as I only ride slow anyway.
Paul I have been there at Easter (April) and I was sunbathing while people were down here all wrapped up in blankets.

  6. strange, just pre easter is now our best weather tho not very warm, better for july aug there but more chance of rain,,, but tbh you can " do it " in 4 / 5 days,, maybe not all the pubs but certainly most of the good roads and scenery, conveniently the two mostly coincide.

  7. You can't go too wrong anywhere north of the border.

Blast up to Glasgow taking the B7076 from Gretna, then on to the Erskine Bridge, up Loch Lomond then left to Argyle and Bute (that is the county not the island), drop in to see finm for coffee then on to Fort Bill. Return via Glen Coe and back down to the Erskine Bridge. If you are really hard, and not just a softie southerner, add in a day trip from Fort Bill up to Skye. April or May is the best time, but be prepared to cancel if the weather is shit, it is Scotland after all.

  8. Oh I fancy Loch Ness do ya think I'll see the beastie?

  9. john,, how long is since you were in Scotland !!

  10. I am a regular visitor, what is your point ?

  11. your suggestions, in themselves are ok, but really just touching on the potential for a 4 or 5 day visit,, e.g.,,loch lommond used to be great drive , 20 years ago, but is nothing now. and going to fort William without doing the A82 is sacralidge !!

  12. Shit me what is with everyone tonight. Is this going to be the start of another pissy row on another thread?

  14. Err, I think large sections of the A82 are included in my route. A87 to Skye is better than the A82 north from Invergarry, which is also very good.

    Tarbet, Lochgilphead, Oban is excellent.

Glen Coe is excellent and very scenic.

B7076 is deserted and avoids the M74

We could argue all night over which roads are best in Scotland but like I said, you can't go too far wrong north of the border, they are all good.

  19. for sure :),, the A82 ( including N of Invergarry ) is a classic road.
actually I q like the M/A 74,, passes throo some beautiful scenery, effortless and good surface, which is not always the case with many otherwise great roads up here.

  20. Guaranteed to see the green beastie if I'm riding in front of ya
