I have just bought a silencer which has the Ducati lettering on it and the same numbers as old guys,573-1-081-1A and it also bears the legend "for race use only" Have I come upon something rare or a white elephant, also came with matching ECU
Googled the numbers and came up with this.... :/ DUCATI SILENCER 102 DB 999 R 2003 57310811A NEW | eBay
It says for race use only on the underside towards the front of the bike, you can see right through it from intake to outlet, surprisingly I did get it from the place in the ebay ad you posted the link to,they were valuing it at £1500 new,not the £800 in this ad
you will have to bear with me for a photo, the seller assumed the Isle of Man was in Outer Mongolia and wanted to charge shipping accordingly, the item is at my mums waiting to be sent from there
Fair enough. It's starting to look as though I may have the Ducati 999R can then, which is great news for me but I haven't spotted the race use only lettering. Maybe that was ground/polished off to get it through MOTs...
post up a pic or a link if your curious and i will tell you what it is. doesnt sound like a termi. probably a std exhaust with a std ecu but thats going off your descriptiin. fire a pic up for us to see
These things are not always listed by knowledgeable staff and ive seen plenty of stuff listed incorrectly over the years. If it is a 999R exhaust I cant see why it would be desirable - unless you had a 999R for which you wanted a std can. Each to their own. Im just a little worried people are buying these thinking they are something else. At the end of the day 71 quid is good for a can and ECU so there are some good spares there.

So I suspect this can is manufactured by the same company that makes the stock cans, and is identical in every way. They are by no stretch of the imagination a Termi, but I would consider it to be superior to stock can with cat, but inferior to a half system Termi or full systems. BTW I have a cored can for sale and a complete Termi 999R 57 mm system NIB for sale. (sorry about this shameless plug). Fran Found the above on another forum
If the 999R exhaust will fit a standard bike, why wouldn't it be desirable? A straight-through exhaust that sounds better and provides better breathing, so more power than standard - what's not to like?? Especially at £71.00...
The standard can that came with my 999R is exactly the same as any standard can that came with any 999 . It is no different to the standard can that came on my 2003 999s . They did come with an open termi that was stamped for race use only that was in a separate box but that looked like the one in the earlier picture I posted but was made of stainless steel . It has riveted end plates not welded .It also came with an equal size entry plate that could be riveted in if you were to buy equal length pipes. Mine isnt from 2003 though so they could have been different then but the pictures from ebay look like the standard can .
