Can't believe we're comparing the problems of storing our road bikes with the problems encountered by those looking after classic cars, who's values may be seven figures....
Been trying to explain this thread along with the "start my bike over winter" discussion to my family over lunch and the general consensus is all Ducati owners are as mad as a box of frogs.
Brick garage adjoins the living room, hallway and bike room - I didn't know if I had a problem until I checked but thought the brick garage may have been, looks OK though
My garage is single brick, totally separate with a pitched tile roof and no roofing felt. Will have to see if I can get a humidity meter in Maplins, so I can check humidity of garage and inside cocoon.
Top trumps...I've got a garage, container, workshop and coach house..but only three dukes and three others.
Go to screw fix get some DPM, at least 1200 gauge. Line the roof, twice with some cheap rock wall in between. Cost under £50. Liquid DPM under £50 for 25L, cover all the walls on the inside until you run out. This will make the structure resist water. Then we'll start from there. It will take longer to clear he shed than to actually do the work.
Swmbo also pointed out ive also got a gate house (full of motorbike, van, car and garden bits) and two sheds (one for wood and other for building crap) and a hot house. It's a shed with a clear roof and two walls, a bit like a posh lean to. You can never have too many sheds. A man needs a shed...real men have sheds.....I want more sheds. Having just written all this down, I think i need professional help with my hoarding!
Having read about your astounding collection, bought with a long term view, I can see your interest and agree with you - much as I said earlier I'd do if I had a Desmo, Superleggeras, a brace of RC's and of course a Sukuzi RG125F. However, for my 'collection' of 1198, very early ZZR1100, Monster and a Chinese 125 I value the ability to do what I did yesterday (easy access to a bike, yesterday's case being the ZZR purely as it had half a tank of fuel in and I didn't fancy arsing about filling the 1198!) and just grabbing a bike key for fun. It was a 20 mile trip I needed to do and I fancied two wheels as the roads were reasonable, the traffic could have been crappy (it wasn't as it happened) and I enjoy feeling the sheer potential power of the zzr or 1198.
On the roof of our garage (purchased from a neighbour) we extended it into our property. Shortly after I added a large box like structure to its roof to keep 5m lengths of pipe. Nicely finished with a slate n lead work. My neighbours asked what it was and remembering an episode of family guy I told them it was an owlery..we officially have the poshest Owl house in our hamlet.
