So whenever you hire a van the lender has to check with dvla that you do only have the number of points you say do? On a premium rate phone line maybe (as I think they can do now if your licence isn't there, it costs a fiver). I wonder who'll pay for this long term. I can't see it being the van hire people - or dvla. What'd be a really bright idea would be a little paper thing, that any extra info not shown on the card bit could have printed on it, a kind of counterpart bit if you will...
Its not a premium rate number, they just charge you a fiver. Ivhave the number on my phone and dial it for them and hand over monile for them to speak to dvla.
Well it says that if yours was issued before 1998 you should keep it, Personally I think they are discriminating against us older license holders
Well insurance is linked to DVLA so is MOT with the way things are I expect quite a few more are linked to them, it's this internet thingy people go on about it seems it has busted the world wide open.
My mate Mick only got a paper licence. Says he does't want or need a new fanged plastic one and they can all feck off. My own view is that I don't really give a toss. The wretched things only exist to give some other twit control over me and life has taught me that on the whole we are all pretty much of a muchness, leading me to conclude that this particular twit is no better or worse than I am, that I must therefore be a twit too and that therefore this other twit might as well be removed from the equation as an unnecessary irrelevance. QED.
I don't think that's the case, but if you have the old style and need to change address I think you may be forced to "upgrade". What I'd like to know is how foreign car rental will work without the paperwork.
Is the right answer. Paper licences remain valid until they need to be renewed. DVLA: "Those who have an old style paper driving licence issued before the photocard was introduced in 1998, this change won't affect you, and you should keep your licence. The next time you need to update your name, address or renew your licence, you will be issued with a photocard only."
only got rid of my old paper licence a few years ago because I needed photo id and it was cheaper than a passport liked my old paper licence was cautious though photocopied my old licence before sending it off heard stories of licences coming back with certain entitlements missing and people having to retake tests well whatever
