Note the pressure plate & drum will be marked to ensure correct alignment, if you get this wrong the pressure plate will just ride on top of the drum instead of squeezing the pack. The marks are usually a slot on one of the posts & a small indentation on the pressure plate.
what i mean is there are a lot of people looking to be helpful but are actually talking bollox.....is that clearer...
Right, firstly, I got a cold arse now. So, white powder fell out of the spring/bolts so I assume it is a Columbian imports. I can't get the pressure plate off the push rod. It looks like it needs a good clean.
So that's good right? Does it mean I don't have to line up the pressure plate to put it back on? Any suggestions on: White power Cleaning rust off the springs getting the plate off the rod Also, it was harder then I expected to remove the bolts, was that just the rust? Cheers
Currently treating the springs. Bolts and caps to a wd40 bath for the night. I am starting to understand the "made of cheese" quote.
White powder is corrosion between the alloy and the steel bolt . Just clean it all off and they will be fine . No need to line the pressure plate up and the tangs on the plates look good . First plate is usually rusty on the outside . Getting the rod out of the bearing can be difficult I usually hold the rod in soft jaws in my vice and tap it off gently . It should slide in and out quite easily which it will once clean and greased.
I can't pull the rod out either, although I didn't get beef cake on it. Should it come if I pull it hard enough?
