  1. what do i buy... i got 4K saved for my cafe racer build. fancy a decent donor spec'd bike.i 'll smoke it for the summer then break it later on for the parts i want.

what will sell the best... a 999 engine or a 749?

    what about fairings,tanks, frames etc.

there a 999 for £3750 and planty of 749's for that....

Or theres the rsvr's for similar money with similar looking specs, ohlins etc

  2. If you are going to cafe racer it, get a 1100 monster, great engine, versatile set up

  3. no, i want the best suspension with the best resale of parts.

i won't be using the ducati engine, or the frame , fairings etc so i can sell. i want a bike i can track, ride to work over the summer.

  4. In which case I cant recommend any Ducati that you will simply buy and break later without actually doing it to use as the base for the cafe racer, this destroying a perfectly good bike

    Go buy a Honda firebalde

  5. ok thanks for your ,erm, help there bradley.

  6. Out of the 999/749 series the best one to give you a return on parts will be the 999s. But Im a bit confused as you said you don't want to use the engine, frame, fairings etc so makes me wonder what are you going to use?
If you building a Café racer than buy the best monster you can for £4k

  7. so all you want is the forks, rr shock and brakes,, tbh I dont think they are the best in the Duc range, and I will certainly be wanting to upgrade mine eventually...better going for 1098 /monster etc with the radial brakes etc.
or,,,,,,,,just buy a nice 749 / 999 ( s ) and forget about the café racer,, a 7 / 9 is just a modern café racer anyway and prob a whole lot prettier than anything you can build. ( not dissing your own creative abilities ;) )

  8. yes 999 looking favourite. i'll go take alook at it i think.

i want to build a domi racer. i got a rather expensive 1007cc commando engine, waiting for a decent set up...there £34k i'd like to build my own.

  9. that is very nice,, but only the " R " carries the radial brake. ( and they aint cheap !! )

  11. my problem is if i buy the whole complete bike i can get a feel for the handling etc. i want to copy the frame geometry, peg positions etc, wheel base etc so it takes all the guess work out.

the prices of parts are strong, ohlins forks £1200, wheels,£700, brakes £300 rear swing arm, etc etc etc . it would be therefore cost effective to buy a whole bike and sell the engine, and frame, fairings electrics etc.

I can like without radials, and the best of the best stuff. it will be a massive improvement from the commando isolastic mounted rear swing arm!

plus i might enjoy being back on a sports bike, doubt it but you never know

  12. Just buy the parts then. 848 forks and yokes, plus brakes, there are plenty around. Shock will depend on donor frame and swingarm for fitting, the sssa SC and s2r??? Is a nice one as its tubed

  13. That is pretty, aint it!

  14. whats a mirrormaster!

  15. i've been trying but when the bits come to 3k i'm better off with a straight bike, i know the history, i know it's not nicked and i can ride it whilst the rests getting done.

  16. I'm glad you asked that question.
Its a sticky pad that attaches to the back of your bathroom mirror and wired to the lighting circuit.
When the light is on it prevents your mirror from misting up?
Go see MirrorMaster the original Mistfree Mirror makers for more information.

Op sorry for the hijack...I'm leaving now...good luck with the 4k bike...love the Norton.

  18. Looks nice but reminds me of a Buel, just saying so don't shoot me.

  19. Surely you have to have something thats parts will fit the donor frame? Unless you have lots of home skill in machining etc. eg a panigale shick is very good but unlikley to fit many frames. Same as the undersling buell jobbies

  20. really?

the engines the centre piece. the commando frame i have will struggle with the hp of the maney motor i got. just an exercise in coolness.

    this is my favourite commando
