Good lick finding a bike fo 10% of its write off value. Never seen that before. Google copart and have a look
Just looked and it is based on bids, so not a true reflection of what I said. If you write of your vehicle and ask the insurance company if you can buy it back they will only charge you 10% of the write off value. If you choose not to buy it back they are at liberty to do what they want with it as it has become their property. Hope that clarifies it a bit more.
they sell it on, usually to the likes of copart etc who have also rinsed them / us for storage etc. what about this APRILIA RSV1000R 2006 VERY LIGHT COSMETIC DAMAGE, LOW MILES,SIMPLE REPAIR. | eBay
scratched up fairing...the rsvr has the better brakes, suspension and engine. ummm decisions decisions
Yeah went back and had second look and saw it, both fairings damaged, I am not to sure on the spec of the front forks so you will need to have a look in to that.
My mate just finished an xr69...think he spent 20k and insured for 35....or do a supermoto.....one thing I've found is KTM parts are cheap and the spares support is great...if its not in the uk it will be in 3 days plus its all quite generic.....mines got a whole front end from a 640....I think the most expensive single part ivce bought new cost 60 quid.
I'm far from an expert (about as far as you can get in fact) but why base on a sports bike? 999/749s etc are designed to be stable at 160-170mph, is that what you're looking for in a café racer? Isn't using something like a Monster for the base geometry more in keeping with the use a café racer is likely to get and therefore more likely to have a successful outcome? Unless of course the café racer is being built for track use, but it'd still take one hell of a Norton engine to hit 160-170mph.... Likewise how does Daytona 675 geometry differ from Street Triple if at all? What about using a Speed Triple as a base, they consistently got good reviews for handling etc as a street bike.
good point about the frame geo. but all sports bike i've ridden bikes handle ok at 30-40 mph. and get better at speed. it'll do 125+ dependant on gearing but i'll rarely get to that. as for the aprilia the mille is the base, the r i better so i guess the factory has the best bits basing it on a sport bike get me all the bits i need from one source. plus i get to ride a decent bike whilst i sort th engine, gearbox combo
i got a ktm 990 adventure o no all about ktm. a duke would be a good donor. just like the parts on a ducati over th wp forks etc
You should be able to get an ohlins shod aprilia for that. Come with nice wheels and brembos too. Or, throwing a bit of a curved ball here, but an ohlins Ducati DS1000 can be had for that budget too. Looks like a nice project.
