Power To Weight Ratio Questions Due To Boredom

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by Char, Jan 1, 2015.

  1. OK to start with I apparently need to weigh myself in full bike kit - we'll get back to that at a later date...

Now it says I need combined wet weight of bike plus rider (dry) and the rear wheel HP (assume this is the HP quoted on the manufacturers tech sheets). Although some say flywheel HP

5lbs per HP = what to aim for
4.2-4.5 better still for experienced riders

Not sure as to bikes weight as some mods inc exhaust so luckily Wantz has a weigh bridge so I can kill two birds with one stone (or several in my case)

When I put in a online calculator it comes out at 0.9 so help with understanding this please

The SL had supposedly the best of any bike at 1.29hp per kg - so I think I might be getting my measurements mixed but this is without rider

  2. Err...why?

  3. Would a diet help
Much easier to work out :)

  4. Bikes aren't cars. The rider weight makes a massive difference. Your bike might be 10kg lighter thanks to all sorts of carbon baubles and expensive mods. But one rider could easily weigh 30 kg or more than another.
At the end of the day, it's largely irrelevant. I've been on track with a complete lard-arse, but he was bloody fast (a lot faster than me, due in no small part to about 20x more practice).

  5. To answer Fig

Because it's supposedly a better indication than just power alone and would like to know the difference between a 16 stone bloke on an 1199 and a 9 stone bloke on an 899 for example

And ultimately is carbon worth it or should we eat less pies ;)

And yes Glidd appreciate experience and skills another factor in this

  6. Eating less pies is a double plus. You save on the pies and save on the carbon.
It's a lot less fun, but a lot more effective.

  7. 848?

    140 hp
    185kg bike
    0.77hp per kg
    +120 kg rider 0.45hp

    SL
    205 hp
    155 kg (?)
1.32hp per kg ( weight may be wrong)
    + rider 0.75

    600 monster
    175kg + 120kg rider 295kg
    52 hp
    0.17 hp per kg

  10. Youre not talking shite on a technical thread now are you? We don't want mindless gibberish and piffle cropping up on serious threads here thanks.

    :):)

  11. @bradders 120kg rider....so your diet is working?

  12. That is a lot of weight for a rider me thinks, just under 20stone or there about's

  13. 19

6 of that is riding kit ;)

  14. 848 Evo not the standard 848 as that was only 134hp

  15. 6 stone or kg

  16. Really, then the average biker needs to be a body builder to carry his kit.

  17. Suit or armour. I dont crash well, need all the protection I can get. Chain mail can chaff a little tho

  18. See, he's just talking shit on a serious thread again - always does ;) :Bag:

  19. Bradders the average lid is 1.4kg my boots are prob the same but we will allow 2kg, gloves 1kg, leathers 6kg to be generous, all in all not even 2 stone in weight.
