  1. Interesting debate... Anyone want to swap their 1199r for my faster 848 evo? ;-)

  2. I'm not implying that at all. I am simply disagreeing with you. Is that not allowed? It could just have been that you were more "on it" the day you were riding the 848.

    I accept your apology :)

  3. I see no reason why the 899 will catch up with an 1199 on the bends.
I would suggest this is probably more down to your ability verses the people around you and the suitability of the bike for your riding style linked to the confidence it gives you, rather than the 899 being able to catch an 1199 in the bends.
The only real way to tell is if you ride both 1199 and 899 around the same corner and measure how long it takes you :)

I believe braking distances and corner speed are weight related and I also believe the 1199 is lighter, which would suggest the opposite of what you say.

As you say all are their respective opinions and I guess at the end of the day all that matters is that you are happy with the grunt you have :)

  4. On it ?? What acid or LSD ?
I had ample practice with the 899 and it would never lift in 3rd which suggests that it didn't have enough power to launch it :(
Yes you can disagree with opinions but I stated hard cold facts as tried and tested and IMHO that's calling me a liar.

You must have read someone else's post as I did not say the S word :p

  5. Good luck with that mate, we are currently debating well I am the merits of the 848 Evo over the 899 power wise.

  6. No idea why you want it to lift but maybe the weight distribution is different between 899/848.....maybe 899 has more weight over the front ?

    Don't know, just a thought.

  7. I disagree that they are "cold hard facts". Who can substantiate them for you?

Anyway I'm not getting into an argument with you. You believe what you will. If you're not happy with your 899 change back to the 848.

  8. No worries mate I ain't interested in getting in a bum fight either.
899 is gone now I traded it in for a new toy.
Its fecking awesome :D look at that wheelie.

  9. Totally agree the 899 has no bottom end or midrange grunt,to extract any sort of real power out of the 899 you need to be at 9k revs plus, you will never wheelie a 899 off the throttle as there is not enough torque in the mid range to do so,but to say a 899 is slower than a 848 is your opinion and is not backed up by lap times or race results when the 899 and 848 raced side by side,i dont think the 848 won a single race or claimed a single pole position in the tri options challange proof enough for me that the 899 is quicker over a single flying lap and a 8 lap race and Jonathon Railton is a bloody quick rider on the 848.

  10. I can only go by what the clock speed said. bear in mind my evo was in 5th at 175mph still another gear to go.
and I would hope that the speedo error is not as much as 10% as that's far to much error.

  11. Well side by side the 899 i test rode against the 848 evo the 899 felt quicker to me not lacking any grunt either! My mate has the 848 evo so whwn the weather is better i will do a standing start race with him although im 6ft4 and 14.5 stone hes 5ft8 and about 11stone

  12. You're implying that an 848 would do over 180mph not a chance

  13. I can only go by the clock speed, 175mph 5th gear redlined but not on the rev limiter, make of it what you will.
I do not class my self as an expert rider not by a long way at best mediocre and I ride purely for pleasure.
Did go to North Weald run what you brung and did 11.4 @ 125mph drag run, my best run of the day.

  14. Bear in mind you have quick shifter, or are you not going to use it, he will lose time clutch shifting hardly a like for like comparison.

  15. ill explain what I meant by grunt. I rode the 899 and 1199 twice about 6 months apart.

899 has no torque lower in the Rev range which meant it had to be screamed to get any power. If I wanted a screamer then I'd buy a fire blade. I also found its power a bit flat , and progressive which is great but I was bored on the 2 hour test ride after sbout 20 mins. I can't buy a bike that bores me. I'd buy a fire blade if I wanted white goods.

I also found the suspension too soft (80kg plus gear) and wallowy. I asked about this and was told I can't compare it to my 848 as mine had a £300 1098s shock fitted. Same as the 848 corse thingy ? Progress?

The 899 rear tyre felt like I was gonna ride off the edge at any time. No chicken strips at all on either side without even trying. It had them when I left the dealer. My 848 had none on the left and about 1-2mm on the right. The 1199 I have has huge ones 3-4mm on the right. Not a measurement of fun I know but I wasn't even leaning that far and I wanna go round corner fast as I'm not into straight lines.

899 brakes were like my non monoblock monsters. Was told I can't compare them to my 848 as I had 1098 848evo monoblocks. Why not ? So they've fitted worse brakes than the last version on the 848. Progress?

As for catching folk in corners on a smaller bike. Well that gonna be the rider rather than the bike. 899 vs 1199 Why would a heavier 899 with less tyre footprint go round corners any faster? 899 might be a bit nimbler round slower sharp corners cos of tyre width and geometry but not quicker for sure.

I'm gonna throw it out there that my monster 1100s felt faster up until 70 mph.

I got the 1199 as for the money it was a more complete bike. Suspension needs setting up for my weight as its a little stiff , but everything else is better than the 899 as a package.

  16. Hes got a quickshifter on it

  17. Cant agree with you about the tyres the 848 has a 55 profile tyre and on track(i only had a 848 track bike so never rode it on the road)there were zero chicken strips, with the 899 with a 60 profile tyre its harder to reach the edge of the tyre so either it was fitted with the wrong size tyre which i very much doubt or you were pushing on a bit.

  18. 8hp more (supposedly) and same torque !

  19. I couldnt get the 60 profile out to the edge either, so when tyre needed replacing I changed to a 55 profile no more chicken strips, also had to do the same on Street fighter.
1199s has 205x60 on them so will have to see how I get on with that.

  20. Good thread. I am new to this, but its good to see the Evo getting a mention. I will probably never get the best out of it, but the natural move for me would be the 899.
The previous Evo owners seem to have split opinions on the 899.
In all honesty, the cost of the 899 would be the decider, for me, but if I'd the money, would I buy the 1199? Probably, but to have the big bike, nothing to do with my ability.
They are stunning looking bikes, then again I love them all.
