  1. A K1200 makes a Multistrada feel like a lightweight bike.

  2. Definitely. I did! Best decision I ever made as I enjoy my biking more than I ever did. Can't wait to get on my Multistrada. More smiles per mile.

Part exed my R1, 180mph whoopie doo! Just numbers, bored with it.
On the road, my multi makes me grin far more than any sports bike ever has

  6. Buys you into the Ducati club. There have been lots of ugly or uninspiring but very competent bikes made, but a bike is as much a purchase of heart as it is the head, well it is for me anyway. Honda are a great example, what's their 1200 dual sport motorcycle called? I'm not kidding I genuinely cannot remember, I am sure it is incredibly reliable, does everything well but it just don't do anything for me. I Park the multi up and people nearly always come to talk to me about it and tell me what a fantastic looking bike it us, I doubt I would get that with a Honda what's it called. Does that make it worth the extra money, nope! Give the choice between a brand new Honda what's it called and my 2 year old Multi and it's a no Brainer, is for me anyway. :)

  7. Would never have thought the multi would have won many awards for looks , but mostly it's the sports bike engine that they've put in it is the real winner . If it goes bang it don't look to good parked on the side of the road

  8. Halflife's right , I know after having many reliable honda's I shouldn't be looking to change to something a bit fragile maybe .But honda have lost the plot ,all thei9r range may well be reliable but it's turned into a range of bland boring motorcycles which wouldn't get a second glance. That is why I'm going to change to a multi .

  11. We'll be using mine for the TT, so you better lose a limb then...

  12. Damn, I'm back.

  13. Looked at all the Honda's (Blanda's) at the NEC; couldn't stop yawning. Even BMW were interesting from a looks point of view; well a few anyway. It's a passion thing I think the Far East sometimes struggle with.
It's the old garage door scenario: Get up, brush teeth, hop about putting bike gear on and flip up the garage door. Behold, a bike that puts a smile on your face or just a 2 wheeled mode of transport? Or not if your a certain MCN bike journo :Arghh:

  14. UPDATE :

In discussions with Ducati - don't want to disclose what they initially said just yet. No reason given for why engine failed yet and didn't get oil results. Its been another week, going to have to escalate...

  15. well I have had to escalate to UK Managing director...since wall of silence since last week.

  16. Any replies to your requests? I got well served by Metropolis and Ducati Italy when my gearbox needed a complete re-build. Ducati UK wasn't really involved but Italy took care of it, even called me a couple of weeks after the work was completed to check it all worked out for me. This was for a '12 Multi with five digit number of miles on it at the time.

That said, it took a long time to get all the parts as they weren't in stock and had to be built. 7 weeks total with work.

  17. hi all,

Yes did get "prompt" personal reply from ducati uk md - all credit to him - and I think we have managed to agree a way forwards on the engine without having to write the bike off.

The issue is that as its just out of warranty I have had to rely on the goodwill of ducati and meeting them halfway in some way, the labour costs are important to consider as they are out of scope and you still have to meet them.

I am about to finalise - hopefully - the outcome and as soon as I have and everything sorted I will provide the details, but the faith in the brand is coming back at least.

Not sure about faith on the rest of my specific 2010 bike though, even after the engine work...but for now I am telling myself - its now just a expensive repair and it will get back on the road for the commute. My head is telling maybe it is worth a trade in for another mts now rather than later but the heart is saying it wont go wrong again and the even the cost of any repair will be cheaper than getting another 18K mts1200 ?

  18. Just bought a 2011 1200s sport. Reason being find my R1 SP a bit hard going in the mountains these days and felt the Ducati was the most exciting of all the various adventure style bikes I tested. Tried the K1200s as well thought it was totally bland but ballistically fast.Bit concerned about the amount of engine fails etc with the Ducati though but that said had 3 Aprilia's back in the day and they never missed a beat so here's hoping. Roll on summer

  19. Fingers crossed !
