Ok guys and gals I'm wanting to do my first track day in the next couple of months. Having only just passed and with no track experience whatsoever has anyone got any ideas which would be the best track to start on. I'm in Yorkshire so preferably something around the area in a few mile radius would be better.
Donington park would be easier to learn than cadwell , book up in novice group, get a yellow hi-viz at the briefing so others will know that its your first time on track and will give you plenty of room and get a session out with an instructor ,theyre free . Oh and ENJOY the day at your own pace
Donny in the rain is slipprier than a slippy thing, aviation fuel all over the place, go steady... Mallory Park, sorted
Take a run over to BLYTON Raceway, a great track to learn (not the grasstrack circuit!), all flat, loads of run off and all new tarmac. Cheap too with full facilities inc instructors to help learn the circuit. 1.3 miles and pretty twisty, cut your teeth here..... Its in North Lincolnshire, about 10 miles south of me in Scunthorpe.
Just had a quick look at some dates and it's mainly 95db which could be a problem - worth a shout tho ~
Jeez you don't waste any time do you Pixie! Have fun, learn lots, I'm sure it will be really useful. One day I might get on the track but it'll have to be on a school bike.
I am sure there are trackday organisers that do complete days, or at least one group for people who have never done a track day. Give them all a call and ask.
My first one was at Pembrey with like minded ducatisti. It's a great experience after a crap start Good way of finding what your bikes capable of doing
Any of the Reclaim you Trackdays organised by Bike Magazine. Very friendly and no pressure. They have one at Brands Indy in Sept
+1 for Mallory. Very simple track to learn, which means you can concentrate on your riding, rather than trying to think which way the track goes next.
yes, except for the hairpin - my first trackday was with ukmoc and I approached that bend at warp factor 8 It goes directly from tarmac to grassy bank - you think you're going to be launched into orbit
 That was mine and yours first trackday, I believe. I got the 748R pegs down in the chicane holy crap! Wouldn't do that now!
that's going some! 1st trackday, 140bhp Monster in novices with people on 600 carbed bikes Maybe not the best plan, but... Hadn't realised that was your first. Presumably we were in No-vices together? Hope I was suitably polite!
Jerry, you are ALWAYS polite  No-vices indeed! The UKMOC had opened up their day to all Ducati owners as it hadn't filled up by a certain date, so me and Everton thought we would go along and support it. It was a nice atmosphere all round and so a good first time experience. Ooh - I wanna go and do it again now!
Doesn't really matter which track you go to imho. They all turn left and right Most important thing is to go with an attitude that is there to learn and respect both the circuit, other riders, and your machinery. Definitely worth getting an instructor on your 2nd/3rd session. 1st session is always good to go out with someone you know who can lead you around and get you comfortable with where it turns left/right. 2nd/3rd session is where you start relaxing a little and benefit from someone showing you the lines, later your technique.
I have to agree with mallory and if you go with no limits you get free instruction. What bike will you be taking round?
if you are thinking of Mallory (distance wise) then Bedford autodrome (club msv) is the safest track in Europe with loads of run off and no barriers to hit, as long if not longer than Silverstone and Donnington and a much better circuit imo, it is also an anticlockwise track with lots of flowwing corners perfect for getting your knee down
