How Much Did Your Ducati Cost You In 2014

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by tricolore, Jan 8, 2015.

  1. My wife asked me how much my bike cost me last year ( after I said I was skint ). Very little I thought, but then I started adding it up:

    New tyres £230.00 ( could have waited )
    New RK Chain £110.00 ( just a nice treat )
    Oil & Filter change £65.00
    Couple of bits of Carbon £150.00 ( another treat )
    Seat re-covered and filled with memory foam £150:00 ( :) )
    Couple of parts powder coated £100:00
    Fluid covers £100:00

    I'm not adding Insurance, tax or fuel etc just looking at things I bought which I probably didn't have to.

    £800 - £900 That's alright - Isn't it ?

  4. Ha......

    £280 Tyres
    £400 Arrow Pipes
    £280 Re-Map
    £90 Clutch Slave Cylinder

    I'm sure there was more! Incidentally I sold it though in Sept and bought a Daytona 675R

  5. Any man is stupid to think that his wife does not know exactly what he's spent. I don't need, or want to hide anything from her. My wife's question was only one of interest not criticism.

  6. Given up counting

  7. I would say theres a subtle difference - running costs and blingy/upgrade costs are different - bling is nice to have but doesn't need it whereas, tyres for example you need. My rsv4 last year had a set of tyres, oil change and, rocker covers upgraded (ie so they don't leak - new revision of the same part) so id hazard about 500 quid....however, the hyper's necessities were an oil change and a back tyre, but clutch pressure plates, HEL brake lines, powder coating etc etc doesn't really come into a running cost....

    KTM supermoto project - im not even going to start on that!!

  8. My gf has no idea about bike costs. We have separate bank accounts and a joint account too. Only reason she knows how much my 1199 was as she was with me when I bought it.

    Rule of pushbike - whatever they cost always tell them it cost 1k.

    My worry is that if I die , she sells everything for what I said they cost.

  9. I think if told the other half she'd hit the roof but I think as long as I provide then she's ok with it plus, I wouldn't go over the top if I think I can squeeze it I will but I would take a financial risk...plus on top of that any physical money I have I either give to her, or, its surgically removed from my wallet....

  10. why do people let there partners tell them what they can cant buy?.

  11. Because, even I would say ownership of 3 bikes is a bit much so, when you get to that point then it becomes a negotiation - there are other factors as well, like mortgage, kids, etc etc. However as she [My wife] will happily admit.... "I get the holidays (choice of where we go) and you get the bikes!) - which she is more than happy with....

  12. discus yes, dictate no. although it seems every time a bike arrives a horse seems to follow?

  13. Errr....Ummmm.....
    Bike=X
    FARKEL=Y

    1x = 1Y

    And that's as clear as I going to make it.

  14. That's some dealership....Sounds like a Harley outlet.

  15. Not sure where your going with that phrase....the point I was making was - I think in the scheme of things if I had for example 1 bike, spent the bare minmum on it, used it as a work hack for example - there would be no negotiation - if it needed something it would be bought - no discussion....but if its like above when its just playthings that you spend money on for a hobby for example then yes, then its up for discussion...

    Ie last night I had a quick "is it ok with you" discussion about getting my RSV4 in for dyno work....that 500 quid that I spend (not sure of the exact price yet) could be used somewhere else in the house, or spending money for holidays etc etc...and yes, she's ok with it...!

  16. not really going any where with it, always find it amusing when my mates say best ask the misses. :Wtf:. my wife wouldn't ask for permission, nor do i.
    all said in a non confrontational way btw.
