Seized exhaust bolt.

  1. Tyre change time. Standard exhaust, need to remove said exhaust. bolt seized solid. I have liberally sprayed said bolt with penetrating oil.

Anyone else suffered and how did we get past the problem?

  2. Try heating it up with a hot air gun or plumbers gas torch if you have one.

  3. Mine was the same , Loads of plus gas and i thought the fucker was goin to round out but it turned in the end !

  4. +1 for using a gas torch.

get it really hot and be very careful and apply constant pressure and she will move.

Worth a try shocking it also with a hammer on the socket/bit.

  5. With the standard exhaust, where the silencer attaches to the cat the silencer has a sort of hook-shaped piece of metal which fits around a peg on the cat outlet at the bottom. You have to twist and unhook the silencer, to take it off. Except that the peg has gone missing from mine. Still seems to work just the same, but now a little bit easier to take off. The peg does not seem to be listed as a spare part.

  6. All the same, use a gas torch then replace with a stainless nut and bolt

  7. Yup folks, that got the Bugger! The bolt was glowing a dull red hot when I removed the torch. As it cooled there was a satisfying cracking noise as the rust quite literally separated.

BFO allen socket a shed load of pressure and out she came. Strangely very satisfying.

  8. Six-sided impact-type sockets will stop any rounding? :upyeah:

  9. Don't you just hate it when designers don't consider maintenance....I remember in the 80's the little Renault 5 ....one had to almost remove the engine to get to the starter motor....you would think the clever Ducati designer would find a way to build an exhaust that one doesn't have to remove to take the wheel off....on the the other hand they probably used the appi to design the exhaust as the whole oem thing is a crock of s..t

  10. Replaced the bolt with a temporary standard one covered in copperslip. This will be checked each time I wash her until I can get me mitts on a set of stainless bolts to replace most of the crappy fasteners on the bike. Then again why should I have to?
