Well in a little dilemma and need a little advice as the title suggest , whilst getting some valuable experience on my current GIXXER 1000 and also some NCD although that's not majorly important , and waiting on a insurance claim to be finalized , i have narrowed my new or secondhand bike down to 3 choices ............................. 1st, ducati panigale 899 or 1199 , never had a twin or a ducati but loved my test ride on the 899 and the torque it has compared to an inline 4 to which i have always had but i'm a little concerned as to reliability issues, as i want to do european trips on the bike , following the tour de france in 2016 for 2 weeks , + many more trips and trackdays 2nd BMW S1000rr 2015 0r 2014, seem to be very popular amongst all the magazines and seem to have an excellent following + seem to hold a great value , although i'm looking not to change for a while when i do decide to buy . Also comes with heated grips 3rd R1 same again 2015 or 2014 models , always had inline 4s and never had any problems at all with any issues with jap bikes , i also love the sound of the big bang engine , had R1s before and they are great ,but should i be different There is my dilemma , i do have test rides for the BMW and R1 booked in when they come into the dealers ,just wondered what you guys think ( try not to be biased even though i have posted this on a ducati website )
Or A thoroughly shaken down MTS1200. Great for a European tour....all the bugs removed and just had a full service. £8K
2015 R1 will be nice. If I was going for a modern Ducati I would step back a few years and go for a nice 1098S - better value, less depreciation and a bit more of a full on traditional 'Ducati experience'
Does it have to be a sports bike ? AirCon has a fair if self interested point. The 1200 Multi is every bit as capable (have you seen Bradders rag the arse off his, much to the chagrin of some 1098/1198/1199 riders) with a more comfortable riding position for longer journeys. Lots more luggage space too. Andy
I have had a test ride on the BMW GSA 2014 model thinking that the touring and comfy route was the way to go , although i haven't had a ride on the multi , i just love my sportsbike and the thrill you get with riding one
I think your dilemma is a or b from option 1 - I mean seriously have you been on the BMW & Yamaha forms
TEST RIDE AVAILABLE HERE TOMORROW....MTS1200....lovely bike. Genuine +150Mph sports bike, great riding position....superb touring. AND simply the best forum and mates your could every have.
I bought my Panigale 1199s on a monday, did the 600 miles run in by thursday and went on a 3500 mile trip across Europe to Southern Italy on the Friday Not a single reliability issue. The huge bags saved my tail when I slipped the front in the Alps! View attachment 41257
Having previously owned Japanese fours I now own an 1199 and love it. No problems so far and with the comfort race seat it's fine for miles. It needs a taller screen which will be added soon and it throws off ridiculous heat in town. The other mods I have are Termi slip ons and a 41T rear sprocket. On the open road it is more fun than anything else I've ever ridden.
