Originally i was waiting for a 5 month old one to be traded in had done 800miles no mods and i could of had that for 10500 ! The guy decided not to trade it in and was selling it private for 10750
Yes a quick rider will be quick on a 899 , but same rider be even quicker on a 1199 . Depends on individual wants out of it . But build quality is defo down on 899 compared to 1199 . Both still great bikes just not as good .
Mmmmm... The paint is the only real difference I know in build quality, I would also hazard a guess that less 899's end up back at dealers with major problems as the bike is less highly strung. "Not as good" is all a bit playground, as you say it's what the individual wants.
yep right sissy when a had a good look at the 2 side by side, the 899 is lesser spec, monocock, engine casings , wheels, suspension, swing arm, dash, performance bikes done tst with rutter on board 1199 defo faster even around the tight Mallory park, think not as good is defo valid point that's why its cheaper , as its not as good, if it had all the 1199 spec it would cost more , built to a price to compete in the market its in ,, middleweight performance,
When I was at the factory they had 899 parts and 1199 parts separate. Even small items. There's a reason why the 1199 is lighter even though the swing arm is heavier. Better quality lighter bits
Rutter was about 2 seconds quicker. Us mere mortals wouldn't be able to get any were near that margin. The gap would be much smaller in the real world with normal riders.
Magnesium front end on 1198 were nose cone bolt on to mirrors etc 899 steel . fuel tank not the same , suspension , stil good bike but not as good quality wise , not my opinion just the facts .
Not about people's ability thought this was a genuine comparison between 1199 v 899 . If down to ability most on here would not be on sports bikes at all. Il b on my Vespa
yes but the point of the test with rutter was he can go faster on an 1199 even on a track which is more suited to 600cc bikes, 1199 better bike than 899, if money was no object to everyone on here which would they buy? I recon 99% would go 1199.
899 is deffo built to a budget,i think the main differences and please correct me if i am wrong are,1199 ali tank and rear subframe the 899s are steel,1199 mag engine cases and slipper clutch the 899 has no slipper clutch,1199 colour screen,899 has no lacquer on the paintwork(lightweight ),899 wheels are fecking heavy, the 1199s dash is chocolate as are the 899s conrods,so i guess that equates to about 4 grands worth.I have the 899 because i am a shit rider and a 1199 would be wasted on me.
i test rode 899 and 1199 and felt quicker on the 899 as i wasnt intimidated by the power and could use it how i wanted the 1199 was too much for me ... Im used to hustling a 600 around at a decent pace (2.08s at snetterton) so i disagree that id be quicker on the 1199 ! Build quality isnt better but parts specification is def better on the 1199
899 no slipper clutch but electronic anti lock up thing ! 899 has lighter wheels than most bikes just not as good as the 1199s etc etc
I think a lot of people think the smaller bike is better handling ,, not just pannis but gsxr750 against 1000cc etc, a few years ago this was the case ,but nowadays the 1000cc bikes are as equall I,d say, they have come on with the times, lightweight parts etc, t/c, I know when I had a swap of my mate zx636, out with the lads I had to ring its neck and much preferred the 1199, power , torque etc ,
Anti lock thing is shite, the 899 rear wheel is the heaviest of every modern day sportsbike, but i do love my 899.
Its not the handling but the power that done it for me 1199 was too much and im no slouch ! 1199 handles really well but if you cant get on with the power youre not gonna get the best out of the bike
