  1. When you insult someone's wife you are insulting a person. When you insult a religion you are insulting a person. Is it really that difficult to understand?

  2. Not yet. On my list now though.

  3. nope, that's why i used it, i feel terrible but its the only way i could convey in my mind the severity of it

  4. It was only one line :) and it was completely the wrong word too :Wideyed: I feel your pain :(

  5. Mr. Glidd I'm going to disagree with you as most of the wine comments, at least those from 3x, are in keeping with my appreciation of Red wine. Once I activated the "ignored content" almost immediately I regretted my action. I've tried wading through the awful spelling and bickering.
Now I'm going to give up.

  13. OK, so I've been doing a bit more reading.
Unlike Jesus (and let's face it, there's nothing wrong with a good Jesus joke), Mohammed was a sort of clan leader and warrior. Whatever wisdom he may have possessed (and it doesn't look as if he had any more than countless other people - say a lot less than Ghandi), he could be violent on occasion. No doubt it all made sense in its historical and cultural context. The Koran seems littered with people being bumped off.

Muslims take the guy very seriously - you can't criticise him. But unlike Jesus, supposedly the son of God, and in the confused Trinity idea, also God himself, Mohammed was just a prophet (again, supposedly).
I can't see any reason why he should be immune to satire. I also can't see what Islam is really offering as a religion. It might make some sense in the Middle East, but it's a weird one to have spread so far. And you can cut it anyway you like, but Sharia is the legal application of the Koran. It's a book that tells you all you need to know about how to live your life. There is no need for democracy, as the people have nothing to decide; the Koran has already done it for them.

I fully accept that there are peace-loving Muslims; probably most of them. But only because they choose to focus on the non-violent bits of the Koran. As it's stuffed with contradictions (like all these holy books, it's cobbled together out of various texts), you can find verses which contradict other verses.
The jihadists reject this way of interpreting Islam - they don't want the quiet Islam of their parents. They want something altogether more meaty and violent, probably because they are often inherently violent people themselves (one of the French murderers was already an armed robber before getting religion).

So for me, Islam is not only a fairy tale (like all religions in my view) but its code for living isn't even a good one. For both those reasons, I don't think it should be immune to satire and a certain amount of ridicule. I know Muslims don't like it, but they should get over it. We all have to get over things we don't like. Suppose we felt so upset about the "blasphemer" being sentenced to 1'000 lashes in Saudi Arabia that we bombed the Saudi embassy? No, we wouldn't, would we? Quite right too.

  16. And if anyone is still an apologist for Islam after reading the excellent post above he or she needs his or her head testing.
