Yeah AL, that's the type of decal I'm after. The decals on back panels and half-fairing are exactly the same, they've been lacquered over and sit slightly proud. I was a bit skeptical when I called as the prices are a bit too good to be true but he's emailed me asking what size decals I need. Then he started confusing me when started going on about the different types and I left the conversation none the wiser. I'll give them a call tomorrow and see what they say. Cheers
Haha! No chance! I do have a question mind for everyone, not wanting to create another thread it's still sort of the same thing; Going to do a touch up of the white paint on the frame. Can I just used a normal white paint pen or will I need a special paint? Please say the former, I'm all painted out!
You can use the ordinary touch up brushes by Hycote or similar, but I'll warn you that what is supposed to be Ford Radiant Red in mine, it doesn't actually match the rattle can Ford Radiant Red. And....don't forget, they are fast drying with pretty sh*tty brushes... AL.
Cheers AL, going for a normal white. Hopefully Ducati didn't paint trellis frames in different shades of white!
No, but Hycote and the other rattle can manufacturers do, so you will still need to find a match, I'm afraid. AL
your best bet is to mask up as much as you can on the frame flat it down and blow it over with ford white , as long as you do most of the visable frame it will look ok but its very hard to touch up a scratch or chip without a paint match
I wish I could do that John but I don't have the technical balls to dismantle my pride and joy and I don't have a garage! I'm very jealous of you guys who have the time and space to do it all. I was going to go with a pearl white, it's only to cover up some bits of rust, not a major paint job. Thanks for your tips on the rattle can, without them I probably would of smashed the fairings up.
If you are just covering up rust, try Hammerite Gloss........... Works wonders on old cast iron rainwater pipes and gutters.............. AL
shame you are so far away or i would do it for you for the cost of the paint , if you got it all rubbed down as i have a 10x8 spray booth in my workshop . or you could post it to me bit by bit
John, I lacquered the fairing on Saturday. I did about 4 coats, is that sufficient? Unfortunately I got a drip which will need to be sanded down, but how should the coat look? Is it best to leave it for 2 weeks before buffing?
I assume you used Hycote rattle can lacquer so I would have done two coats of lacquer, let it dry for a month (soft as sh*t when new), then fit it and polish it when it got dirty. PS...Zorsts.....mine is fitted with a Stage 2 Dynojet kit..... AL
 Nope. Halford's. There were THREE full cans sitting in the cupboard at work. Would of been rude not to use them! Was reading up on the Lacquer from halfords and some say you can buff down after a few days as it's harder than Hycote rattle. Also can come out matt but will mean extra elbow work. I'm going to get some rubbing compound and give it a go tomorrow. I'd rather see how the colour comes out now rather than in two weeks. If I mess it up, I'll suck it up and get it done professionally. PS...Did you buy the carbs/exhausts without knowing they were Dynojetted? I'm considering jetting my carbs, looks like I'm running too rich but I don't want to pay for a Dynojet kit! How can anybody mod their bike with no money?
if you got it right it should look like glass, if not and you have enough lacquere to flat it down with lots of water and 2000 grit paper then polish with some G3 sorted
but be very carefull near the edges and high points as it is very easy to rub though the top coat , i know i have done it lots of times and it will mean re doing it
John, I don't know why you don't open up a spray shop? Will let you know how it goes tomorrow. Post will probably be filled with a lot of obscenities and ranting
