Decision Time 1098s Or 848 Evo?

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by Gazjen, Jan 10, 2015.

  1. The evo corse has 140bhp.....more than enough for the road. I've never needed more even when riding with 1098/1199 ect.

But as always, ride both and choose your favourite.

    Enjoy whichever you decide on

  2. i bet they dont even on a ducati dealers generous dyno...

  3. Both bikes have their pros and cons in different settings, best way to realise the one for you is simply taking them both out for a test run and see which gels to you and your riding style most. It will eventually come down to whether you make decisions with whats inside your head or your chest. Let the battle commence.....:Woot:

  4. Yeah @andyb is right. It's clearly not got enough oomph for the road. Get the one that's better in the real world. That's what he'd do ;)

  5. im all for the real world...

  6. If you had the 1098 Streetfighter then you are going to have to go for the 1098 s because you'll feel the 848 underpowered by comparison.

  7. whoaaaaa!!! you cant go saying that!

  8. Maybe he can in the real world :D

  9. I've owned both and loved both but couldn't help but get frustrated that I couldn't quite match my friends on track riding litre bikes with the 848 so have p ex it against a 1198s but other than that the 848 is a cracking piece of kit.

  10. I wonder if you'll be faster on the bigger bike?

  11. you may be faster on the 848 but you will always hanker after the 1098 power........its addictive

  12. I'm sure the 848 is the better road bike than the 1098 / 1198. My 1198 is too much for the road for my abilities, to be honest. I knew it would be when I ordered it but went ahead anyhow. Why? Because I feared that if I had gone for the 848 no amount of logic would overcome the feeling of 'if only I'd got the one I wanted' I know I'd have had every time I saw it.
It's a big purchase, probably the most expensive bike I'll own, and I figured I'd always regret getting the 848 and so would be swapping it before too long as opposed to being content with my choice - even if the bike is laughing at my lack of skill most of the time!

  13. Me too ...

  14. 848 is taller than a 1098 due to non adjustable rod, plus the engine postion (due to its size) is slightly differnet hence it feels a little more agile. From several technical resources, not me.

If you like big v twin torque you got the right one. The 848 doesnt have that. Nor does a multistrada in the same way a 1098 does ;)

But point to point you will be quicker on an 848. And thats a fact ;)

  15. lovely bike, enjoy and take it easy till your used to it..........if your going to do one thing then set the suspension up,its much much to hard on standard settings. also think about changing the foot pegs as they are very slippy ( I fitted foot rests from the 1098R, price them from your dealer. )

    most of all........................enjoy.

  17. Was about to say that, looks like they have 'back to blacked' the tyres. Did that once when I was 17 on my Suzuki GS125 and shit myself on the first corner. Looks a lovely bike though. Still think the 48/98 models are the best looking ducatis.

  18. whats one of the first mods all the 848 crowd do............put an adjustable tie rod on it......

how is the engine position different? engine mounts are in the same place............848 v 1198
