I get the feeling that speed triple has been to most of these poor forgotten countries. He may have an inkling of life in those places not on the common or garden tourist map.
more than 95% of the worlds population can hope for.. but for some reason other peoples misfortunes dont seem to put my life into perspective
That's very sad. Maybe they should. When I survived a smash in a car that should've killed me (head injury, nine broken ribs, two punctured lungs three broken vertebrae, shattered scapula, unconscious for three weeks, off sick and in rehabilitation with people in a worse state than me for nearly a year) when I was 26, it certainly put things in perspective. I live every day as if it's my last now. Hope it doesn't take something like that to wake you up to how lucky you are.
I know people who work for and with the NHS. Just what they tell me. You should look at the sickie rates for public servants v those for private sector workers some time. Easy to find online and instructive. My wife's boss in social services was sacked because she lost her grip on the Friday sickie brigade so I have personal knowledge.
Do you know what one of my pet hates is? People who feeel the need or right to private message you (aka start a conversation) to correct your English! The answer is NO I BLOODY WELL CAN'T CHANGE A MAIN FORUM HEADING...even if the English is wrong. Sorry if this is the wrong thread for pet hates, but it is the epitome of a Grammar Nazi.
I wasn't doing that and in no way implied that you'd written the heading, Aircon. I was just hoping you had access to correct it to make the front page of the site look better. Sorry if you were offended. It was not my intention I assure you. That's the trouble with text communication. It lacks nuance. Apologies once again. As a peace offering, I won't even point out in the Grammar Nazi thread that you must be feeeling (sic) really narked! Peace?
So can you correct Forum How To's on the front page of the site please? Or do you also believe that apostrophes can be used for reasons other than denoting a possessive or a truncation, such as "for emphasis"? as does at least one other excitable forum member?
Edited. We all make mistakes. I correct several hundred every day when I go to work. Most of them are factual or syntactic and are far more serious and misleading for the reader than the odd typo! If the reporter or writer responsible for them took as much offence when I correct them as contributors to this forum, there would be a war in the office every day. People who make their living with words aren't so precious about them (mostly, but that's another story).
"People who make their living with words aren't so precious about them (mostly, but that's another story)." Really you do surprise me.
