Front header pipe turning blue !!

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by knightrider, Aug 18, 2012.

  1. Could this be the start of something to worry about ?

The bike is going in for its 7.5k service and I want the dealer to be made aware of anything that could be potentionally expensive to me when the warranty runs out in oct.

It has a full termi fitted and the previous owner polish all pipes and i cleaned them up after my Alps trip a month ago, it was after this the change in colour happened

Thanks for any advice 2012-08-18 17.53.15.jpg

  2. I would think that's just natural heat discolouration.

  4. Yer defo knackerd will give you 1500 lol

  5. its running lean and running way to hot, did you remap the fueling after changing pipes???

  6. It's completely normal

  7. Most riders spend a fortune to get their pipes blue....what did you do?
    :upyeah:

  8. Bought a Ti system :upyeah:

  9. I agree here, i would get it checked/ mapped at the very least. a very weak mixture could also cause the exhaust valves to sink/burn if not attended to, then its an expensive fix.
a dyno run for a checkup is around £30-£40 , well worth the peace of mind.

  10. I'm actually thinking there might be a problem ........ When my bike went in for the rear brake upgrade the sevice guy said there was also a software update for the ECU, and Im now thinking they have upgraded the race ECU that comes with the full termi instead of the standard ECU that had been taken off which the upgrade was probably ment for ....... i've worked in the motor trade and some things i've seen people do or not pay attention it wouldnt surprise me

  11. NOTHING suprises me anymore, stupid will allways win over.

  12. valves are cheap, try a holed piston and a purple end to the conrod

  13. Yeah, but you can weld a hole up!

  14. Purple end to a con rod is lack of oil nothing to do with weak mixture.

  15. Omg it's normal ImageUploadedByTapatalk1345402416.971541.jpg

  16. My opinion, thats not normal. unless its had the nuts revved off it for an hour whilst stationary, thats piss weak. Only doom will follow.

  17. Well that's your opinion and your welcome to it , if you heat any stainless or titanium it will go blue .
Now if it was glowing cherry red at night it has a fuelling issue . That picture is a 2012 monster that has done 1000 miles not had the nuts revved off it

  18. that why the other rod was fine because it got loads of oil whilst the other rod didn't???

maybe its a just a coincidence that the purple rod was next to the holed piston

and most importantly why didn't I think of lack of oil causing a holed piston and a purple rod - how incredibly stupid of me
