Hi all - approaching this milestone and wondering how badly I'm going to get stung for the service cost? I've seen a lot of varying costs quoted online, and with some owners quoting costs being literally twice that some dealers are advertising on their sites, I thought finding out in advance would be wise! Thanks!
There are 2 main tasks listed on a 15K service that increase the costs. 1) Replace belts 2) Check & adjust (if required) vales. I would not consider skipping the belts as the consequences of a failure if you don't are very expensive. If you have not done 15K (I will have done about 7.5K when mine is due) then you could question if they need checking as it is mileage specific? Checking them however is not a major expence but adjusting them if required is. Other than the above most of the other tasks is standard stuff except fork oil which I don't think many dealers do. It's your bike, your money & down to you what is done so don't let the dealer dictate!
Had a good friend who runs his own bike repair shop do my major service this winter just gone. I had the following done (labour, parts and VAT) for £500 (mates rates): Replace belts. Oil and filter change (Motul fully synth 300V) Valve clearance check/adjust. 3 needed shimming. New plugs. Fit rear LED light board and fit LEDs to handgaurds and wire them into lighting circuit. Strip and clean front and rear calipers. Adjust chain. He is a good biking friend of many years and no doubt I'll be buying him the odd beer or two when we hit the Picos Mountains in September...... I'll be needing it due to mileage in the next few months - hoping to get a good comparison between the various dealer prices for this work. So far Ducati service pricing has been very non-transparent.
i found a mechanic who will change my belts, i supply them, for £99 ,he said its easy ,,now best place to get belts?
There's no unsarcastic-sounding way of saying: a dealer. Most do mail order: JHP and Moto Rapido are two of the bigger parts players.
I only bought my first Ducati last November but I've been told Woods motorcycle dealers in Abergele, Wales are very good on price. Their service costs are up front and in their website. They're a Ducati dealership. A friend of mine bought a Monster 1100 Evo from them and is very happy with the service he's received. Another friend said Woods were £100 cheaper for the first annual service on his Hypermotard than the quote for the same service at the Ducati dealers where he bought his bike from. Have a look at their prices if Woods are anywhere near you?
I will be having my 15k done next week (run right out of miles and am fed up with the bike reminding me!) and have been quoted 600 pounds parts and labour total inc new belts, adjusting valves, plugs, filters by my dealer CMW in Chichester. It's nice that my regular dealer is quoting the best price I've come across. They're nice guys too.
If when valves are checked they don't need adjusting it shouldn't cost as much as I understand it takes a while to do them. It will be interested to see what happens!
It's not so much the adjustment, it's getting to them in the first place to check. The MTS is packaged pretty tightly. Std hrs on the service is 6 hours. Add the parts in and shims as needed CMW's price is about right.
That does sound a good price........if it was a case of £500 to an independent or £600 at a Ducati Dealership I'd be happy to pay the £600 to get the right stamp on the Service Book and the service reminder cleared from the dash. If you go independent I wonder how much Dealers would sting you to just clear the service reminder?! There's an independant not far from me that has a superb reputation, Louigi Moto (Near Bristol) I'll have to pop in and see if they've seen many/any 1200's yet.
I bought 2 vouchers for 2 full services inc. parts and labour from my dealer SMC in Sheffield when I bought the bike. Those cost me about £300, I used 1 for the second 7.5k service and have been told I can use one for the 15k service too - now that's what I call value for money! 15000 mile service cost - please post your costs and anything to ask for/tips Hi all, my mts is coming up to 15k service, so am about to get a quote for it to be done - probably from snells. if you have already had this done could you please let me know how much yours cost and who with ? - could you also let me know if you had any other work done or it came up ? - I am for example going to ask about getting the forks clunking fixed (as in the US forum they say there is a fix to be done) - not sure if anyone in UK asked their dealer for this ? tks, bugs
My 15K service cost £700 (inc VAT) the other Warranty work (Rear Brake was FoC), the big costs are Labour (8hrs) belts (£70) plugs and filters about £42 each. the only remedial work needed was on one exhaust valve that took the minimum 5mm (?) shim all others were fine, but they all had to be checked. Dealer is PT in Surrey, maybe expensive but I trust them. My forks don't clunk but the screen does on rough roads - not found a fix for that yet. The 22,500 service is another story - more to follow!!!
Yup that's what I thought circa 750...gulp. Ah well at least the summer will b here soon, nice to have a nice bike all serviced up. Bugs
Bugs, I don`t know if you have done 15,000 miles or having the 24 Mth service but the belts, plugs, valves & fork oil are all mileage specific not age up to about 5 years. This is also confirmed in the maintenance chart. My multi is 2 yrs old in june & sadly I have only done 6,000. I was in Snells @ the weekend so booked it in for a service which is only going to be an oil & filter etc so circa £200.
Yep that's right, belts are 15000m / 24000km or 60 months, whichever is sooner but valve clearances are every 15000m
yup 14400 and counting, am expecting to receive the dash warning in the next week or so... have asked for forks to be 'shimmed'.
Talking of having forks shimmed.......another case of Ducati only fix it if the owner is aware of a problem and complains about it! How crap is that, surely all bikes should be checked for symptoms of such faults by the Dealer as and when they come in for servicing?!
