The deep sump is a different whole engine going to fit it because claimed 136bhp in standard form plus better internal parts titanium rods, hot cams, and lightened crank plus the chance of more with some tuning and bigger exhausts same engine as 996R 998S (999S until 2005 sorry if wrong ) The standard engine claimed 123bhp and it's very difficult to go above a 50mm full exhaust A speedo for each engine can keep better track of mileage
I bought mine in Pennsylvania, she has a plaque stating she is 104 of 351 made, I brought her over and since then it's just (including getting it UK registered); USA fuel carbon filter system removed Carbon sprocket cover and carbon hugger added Had the very rare and genuine monoposto tail resprayed as had minor marks. Quality rearsets and non key fuel cap. Wheels resprayed Renault Williams Clio Gold. Std clutch cover removed and new plate/spring/cap set fitted Tyres replaced as were 2008 vintage O/s work is a red silicone hose set to be fitted. It came fitted with; Naff windscreen (skip fodder) Carbon exhaust guard Carbon airtube covers Power commander 45mm termis and correct Ducati ecu BMC airbox air filters (crazy at over £100 I see) Some weird coloured adjustable steering damper (Ohlins will replace it) I don't plan to change any it further, I just love the colour and it's something different after years of the lovely Red and Yellow ones. Only 5100 miles, confirmed as correct and had been stood since 2009.
Wow she's lovely I really like what you ve done especially the wheels I believe they really add to the look of the bike nice finishing touch, I agree about the colour I ve been asked if I sprayed it that colour a few times because they are so rare I keep saying I will not change her anymore but maybe not, I do keep all the original parts and always will Mines got 14,000 on her now bought from original owner with 10,500 last year can stop riding it enjoy it so much do you have any more bikes ?
The wheels are a real Marmite, I was going to go black as I have with nearly all my bikes then went on a Google images tour and spotted a Matrix on there with gold wheels, gold and green go together as does black so I went for it. The credit goes to whoevers bike it was but I did spend an age finding a gold I liked, see the pics I took prior to fitting.
He he yes, it's a 200/55 from memory SC2 after 20 laps of Mallory, now for road use as not fit for track.
See the colour difference I do like very much good choice I may have to borrow your idea in the future Next week fun week as we re having a go at fitting this it's a full 50mm got from flee bay at the moment running the same as you 45 carbon I will be interested to see if it made any difference other than the sound do you know anyone who's already done it
On my old 996 I changed the pipe by your right leg from 45/45 to 45/50 then added 50mm cans and the difference was well worth while, more growl and boom for sure. 50s are by far the best in my humble view, heard 54s and little difference but admit was only a part system.
I looked at a 45/50 as well but had read that you can go full 50mm but not simple job to fit i must say the 50mm header pipes look massive compared to a 45mm I ll take a pic of them side by side and show ya as they at my mates house (more shopping the missus does nt know about ) Is the 998 much different to 996 only ever ridden 916 when first came out my friend had one and mine 998
Full better than part for sure it's just I came across a cheap 45/50 so that forced me that way. I think those pipes you have are thicker walled so look a lot bigger but saying that it is 5mm, almost quarter of an inch. Difference between the two bikes Mmm good question, certainly more perky but far more refined and not so raw is my answer. 916 to 998 is a quantum leap though.
Rode a 1098S I thought about buying once, very impressive, lovely looking bike they are to. Money no object not a Desmo for me, it would be a 1098R.
Tried fitting the 50mm lol no way at all it's out everywhere lesson learnt ,so many parts are interchangeable between the 916-1198 bikes but exhausts seem to be the worst So why number 115
Is it a duff exhaust ? I have fought with many Termis which usualy fit but are tight but they always go on. 115 my mistake its 104, see the pic.
