1200 2014 Skyhook Issue....of My Making??

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Franksie, Oct 1, 2014.

  1. New suspension far cheaper option

  2. JC, used your settings posted earlier so damping is already at its softest. Getting a new wife would be one option but far from the cheapest choice lol.

Not going to let it beat me, in general I love the bike so will keep trying till its sorted

  3. Update JC. Reduced the front preload a little, damping as per your settings but reduced the rear pre-load to No 2. This has now made a big difference to my wifes comfort, spent an hour on it today with now back ache or the constant chattering under her bum from previous OEM spring. I assume (guess) that as the preload is now reduced it allowed the spring to compress to the second stage (2 up section which TW designed it for) Anyway, result, looks like I,ll be keeping it after all!!

Will be going out again next week fully luggaged up to try that.

  4. Franksie did riders say anymore about the problem they thought you'd have regarding the motor stripping the gears with the new spring ? .

  5. Phew glad you got it sorted, was worried the idea that fixed my bike wasn't going to work for you, and I'd sent you down the wrong path.

  6. hi Adie

No, they were happy to change the spring, and welcome feedback whether or not it worked, they did put on the receipt a disclaimer that any warrenty on the rear assembly was null and void which is fair enough.

  7. Early days yet but it's looking good, next weekend we are loading the panniers and top box up to see how it copes and handles loaded up, if all's well then off to Italy this year :). Still, much prefered the ohlins model and will test ride the new one when it comes out. No pleasing some people.. lol

  8. That's odd?
When I told DMC Moto Preston that I was changing the spring for a more powerful one, they told me that's fine, if you bring your old spring in when you've got it off we'll have it tested and if it's faulty we'll pay for the new one.

Funny how different dealers deal with things in a different way.

  9. Number 1. I was told as much without asking when I was buying my '14 here in the US after I told I used to own a MTS in the UK. Was told that even if I found the defaults in the UK correct I would need to adjust them here in the US (apparently they default to stiffer suspension here).

That said, with all the adjustments I have made I find Skyhook excellent when riding the bike hard 1 up. For any other scenario it is less comfortable than my '12 (non-DSS) bike. The old MTS was a little too soft for aggressive or heavier loads riding but it was a lot more comfortable.
