Who Can Fabricate?

  1. £17 to save a wrecked engine. Sounds good to me considering what people spend on pointless bling and tat , but i bought one yonks ago for about a tenner when someone in the DSC produced a batch . But why should anyone not make a few quid out of putting in their time and effort to produce and sell them. Cream Revenge, out of curiosity what do you do for a living and whatever it is how about doing it for cost to members of the forum?? LOL

  2. I've sent an email to Mike. If he is interested I'm sure he'll get back.

  3. With regard to ones for the SS bikes, it is interesting to note that the adverts always state suitable for 900, 750 and 600 models.....

.....well, they ain't..........they fit the 900 only.

I helped 470four to produce some for the 750 and 600, but I never fitted one because I didn't quite agree with the end result on how it should be fixed.....

......and anyway, if the standard front sprocket is in place, there is sod all room to get one in place....

.....but I still have the pattern for them.

  4. I have dealt with Mike in the past and found him to be very obliging and easy to deal with. If he is willing to make some up I can be counted in for a couple.

He made a very nice engine stand for me some years back after supplying him with the drawings.

It would be even nicer if he could make some ride height blanks into the bargain, possibly a thought for the future.

Here's his website Welcome to the new MS Machinery website which illustrates what he does a little more clearly, as well as being a Ducati enthusiast.

  5. I install databases for a large but niche market, if you want a database installed in, I'm your guy.

I have no objection to someone making a living or paying decent money for things. I just think that £17+P&P (which is what the last one went for) is excessive for what it is. A tenner would be about right. And auctioning one at a time inflates the price. Please feel free to start going on about supply and demand if you wish and I know if I don't like the price I don't have to buy one. I just thought that someone on here may want to make themselves a few beer tokens.

  6. 17 Pounds, that's 7 for labour and materials, and 10 Pounds for knowing how to do it ;).

  7. Your probably right and nobody is making me buy it. But if I spent £20 on getting that delivered my dad would give me a slap.

  8. The lister who is now auctioning them off one at a time used to sell these for £6.99 and then later £7.99 at a buy it now price. So you can see the direction he is going in. It is for each to judge whether they want it bid on it or not. Having bought one in the past I would now go for making one myself if I needed to, but each to his own.

  9. Given that the lister starts his auction at £7.49 with postage of £2.65 making just over a tenner, I don't think he can be accused of profiteering or held responsible for the final price if it gets beyond what one is willing to pay - the market is dictating the price.

Best to lie in wait and buy one when no one else bids...

  10. His looks better.

  11. Be aware, they may need tweaking to get them to fit.
The one for my 900ss fitted straight out the box.
The one for my 749 needed modifying. It would only line up with one hole, the other was a holes width out, upwards and front to back, if that makes sense. I had to re shape it and oval both holes to make it fit. It`s not pretty but you can`t see it anyway, so as long as it does the job..........
The seller was adamant it was the right one and I`d definitely ordered the right one. I sent him photos of how far out it was so hopefully he will have modified his jigs and they will now fit straight out the box.

  12. I have asked Steve Bailey to supply me one of his case savers for my MTS1200 several times but he didn't do it, so I gave up. And this is for a bike I actually gave Steve a pillion ride on. Maybe I might give him another try ...

  14. Hi Mike

I guess the first question is how many want one to make it worth your while.

I'd like one to fit a 996 (not sure what others that would fit be certainly 748/916/998).

    Thanks

  15. I got mine a few years ago now , I think i paid £7 plus delivery. As a self employed person myself I look on it like this, if I charged £20 ph and it took half an hour to make one of these that's £10 in labour plus post and I would have to sell 16 a day to make a living, so £17 in my opinion is not out of the way to save an engine casing. Whoever is selling these is trying to make a living not earning a fortune while doing so. If you have a well paid job and have the time to make your own then get on with it and stop moaning.

  16. Hi Mike, (and others reading this)

Put me in for two and I am sure if we could get something going there would be some ( a lot? ) more to follow. Mine would be in the 748-9*8 category.

  17. hi
birdie/steve is 100% on the rough cost as i work for my self as well needs a big run on them and then try to sell them as laser cutting is charged per hour so a large run in the hour???
