As some of you may know I own a Bimota V-Due. Last year it developed a fault on the carbs, where as soon as you turned her off the bike emptied the entire contents of the fuel tank out through the carbs. I took it to BDK engineering near Norwich, they advertise as two stroke specialists. They were a bit slow, but after two months they told me it was all done, they'd changed the carb float assemblies, jets and sorted the float valves. That came to £500. Their fix lasted two rides, then the same thing happened, although this time accompanied by rough running. I took it back into them late October last year, and have been in email contact since, with various promises re being sorted soon. Then in June they stopped replying to email. I've since phoned, spoken to them, but the guy in charge never gets back to me. Now after 9 months my patience has run out. I phoned this morning and told the muppet who answers the phone that I will be going to collect my bike on Tuesday, and that I have no intention of paying any more to them unless they can prove the bike is sorted (I've also emailed the same message)........watch this space!!!
I thought they were delivered as standard with a fault on the carbs. And in quite a lot of other places too. If ever there was a bike to admire (and perhaps not ride) in your sitting room, it would have to be the V-Due. Let us know how you get on though - be great if it would actually deliver.
The guys down at Gibson's in Romford have made pipes for some of these. Tony is the guy you need to speak too, he may know who sorted the jetting on those bikes or put you in touch with other owners?
Cheers chaps, I've actually had several years of trouble free fun with the bike, although was looking to sell it on before this issue cropped up, think it it something fairly minor, and BDK's first effort of replacing the float mech and floats made sense. Sure I'll get it sorted once I get the bike back. Just wish now I hadn't even so laid back, but it was winter and it may as well have been in their garage as mine. Hope they get their finger out and sort it before Tue.
Just got a phone call from BDK, apologising and saying bike will be fixed and ready for collection tomorrow. Why did I have to spit my dummy to get the work done ? Oh well, at least it may have a happy ending.
Hope you're successful tomorrow. What time are you going there? I have to go to Thetford tomorrow ( be there about 11) so could stop by for moral support if needed. Chris
Cheers Chris, not sure what time I'll be there due to work, but thanks again for the offer. I'll let you know how it goes
Went and picked her up and all is well. The tap is fitted and they did a couple of dyno runs to check the fuelling etc. have to say it was a pleasure to hear my 500cc two cylinder two stroke on full chat, it sounded fantastic and didn't miss a beat up and down the box at all revs, almost makes me sorry to sell her, but I think it's for the best. She's tucked up in the garage on charge, waiting for a thorough clean and then back on with the bodywork.
Pleased to hear that, well, pleased to hear you've got her back and all is well, just a shame you're going to sell it!
I've had the pleasure of owning and riding the bike for a while, but it's time to let someone else have a go and maybe buy something else. Really do appreciate all your offers of help Chris. Anytime I can repay the favour let me know.
anyone wanna buy a kidney? i need a bimota V-Due in my life so much it hurts. As a huge lover of both Bimota and two strokes, it wouldn't even matter if it were awful..
It's definitely not awful. Great fun to ride, and the noise and the smell can't be beaten. Weighs about the same as an rs250, but puts out around 100bhp at the wheel. I've got a couple of people interested, but it's really difficult to value as they come up so rarely. After a bit of research I'm looking for around £11k, really want to avoid eBay if possible.
Problem is, it's the fuel injected version and it hasn't been ridden/started ? for 14 years. Piero (who owns all the bankrupt stock) in Italy only sells the fuel injected versions as display and not to be ridden, so the bit about all injection mods will be done could be BS. Some people have got the fuel injection to work better using a power commander as I understand it. Would also like to know if its running the earlier analogue or later (more desirable) digital dash. Top money, but a top bike. A guy over in Ireland has just sold an injected one, not sure how much he got. Still miss mine.
Good challenge for CJS to remap and properly sort it by the sound of things, certainly be a rare bike then.
The story of my Bimota Vdue - | Motorbike reviews | Latest Bike Videos | MCN an interesting little read on the trials and tribulations of owning this rare beast! makes a duke seem positively radiant!
Didn't suffer the same problems at all, apart from the fuel consumption, it was very thirsty. Mine used hardly any two stroke oil, once the pump was properly set up, before that it used quite a lot mainly 'cos it was pissing out of the exhaust. I never had a plug foul on it. Admittedly mine was a carb version, not injection which certainly never worked properly without a lot of work. The bellypan issue is due to the fact that they fitted later "racing" air boxes, which were wider than the original factory jobs and put the whole lower fairing under more pressure/tension, the bellypan in particular( racing belly pans are about 1/2 inch wider across the bottom. From other owners I spoken to over the years sounds like he was unlucky/bought a dodgy one. They can be fickle and need love and care, but well worth it. I owned and rode mine for almost 6 years and it was only gunk in the carbs due to lack of use over my last 18 months of ownership that ever caused me any probs, apart from the initial setting up it required when I bought it.
