So ACF50 is used on planes yeh?..... They wont be washing the ACF off after journey will they? It'll get applied properly and left to do its job.
I know I have said in this thread about some bits on my panigale also looking worse for wear but I must stress that I have just received some stand out service from my dealer Bike got collected Monday for some warranty issues - main one being the heatshield that had fallen apart I had a few other things I had asked them to look at one being the brake fade in the front and a dodgy indicator switch, they replaced the heatshield, gave the exhaust a good clean as it was showing signs of wear and corrosion, mainly under the shield where its hard to clean stripped the front brakes down and re bleed the system changed my tyres for me as I had a nail in the rear sorted the switch out - loose connection and looked over the whole bike for corrosion and cleaned up lots of it and have a part on order from Italy for the rear wheel that was backorde
The dealers aren't the issue - the one time (so far) that ive needed rider's in Bristol's help they've been great....id say for you (ZX6Ghost) you've paid a large amount of cash for a bike that's pretty well at the top of the pecking order, you expect to get your moneys worth, you use it, look after it, so its longevity should be lengthened somewhat...but its almost the opposite... The day I had my hyper delivered and at that point it had 4.8k on the clock....the subframe round the weld points were mostly brown, the footpeg hangers were pretty chalky and all the fixings holding the engine on were also either chalky or rusty....right now the oil lines round the front are spotted all the way round with brown rust...8k on the clock - never ridden in the wet, always kept clean. Why did I buy the bike I hear you ask...well, the R6 I had at the time I couldn't get shot of for love nor money, I wanted another hyper anyway, and I knew what to expect and they did me a really good deal. Its only really a gripe about something that from what I can see is a small part of the ownership but something that so easily fixable and for a small amount would solidify the brand with a bit of more quality, and I hasten to add set them aside from the rest... I really love the brand, name, what its associated with, their perception, so much so that if I ever got rid of the hyper id have to have another duc of some sort...I couldn't not...ie if I were to get rid of my hyper now id go for a naked, I love z1000's, had an 04 model about 5 years ago and loved it, but, id have to have and sf1098s - cos I have to have another duc to replace it...
whats this premium product thing that keeps getting mentioned. i recon there the price they are because of numbers not quality build. still cool tho. just a wee side my 2001 apprilia peg left out in all weather is in better nick that the 2007 fugly thats been relatively well looked after.
I must admit my ZX6R636 That was used in all weather since i purchased it back in 06 and still have it today has faired pretty well One thing it has suffered from is the calipers corroding badly, most of the bolts and fixings have been changed to aftermarket titanium be it pro bolt or the like and its still in good nick today Ok apart from the engine letting go the other year its been sound
A panigale....premium product - the top of their range....generally - I know theres an Sl but that's the way I see it...
Am i happy with the bike still - Panigale - Yes it still puts a smile on my face every time i ride it i work with what i describe as its for wheeled brothers and believe me some of the cars are not much better but its all about history and how it feels beneath you and to me no Jap bike has ever given me the same feeling i remember the first time i threw my leg over the bosses desmo and rode it for the weekend boy that day was the first time i had ever ridden a ducati and it stuck with me it felt almost like walking on glass getting back onto the Jap bike Yes ducati have not set the world alight in GP etc but no other bike at the GP Of silverstone last year made quite the same sound as it blasted down the start finish straight
Me too - happy with what ive got....its just that something that affects pretty well everything they do and is a major pain in the arse is a. monumentally easy to fix and b. would improve all aspects of their entire range and the future life of the product...they cant really loose...
Been to dealers to have new heat shield fitted which was falling apart. Showed them other parts corroded to Fuck. Agreed its not on so bits getting replaced. Happy Oh and the bike hasn't seen water since the week before I posted this thread. Chain even covered in lube gone to shit. Still love the bike mind.
I got the impression that they are getting a lot of this from new model owners too. Nephew is picking up a new Triumph 675R this weekend. Will be staying at mine. I will mostly be washing and cleaning it too. So i'll keep a little photo journal of the two bikes with new fixings and how they weather. Hopefully, knock this "it's your own fault, not the bikes" sentiment on the head.
Yep - I think that's most people's feelings ( on this thread ) - great bike, shame the fittings last a little bit longer than a ham sandwich....
If I remember ill take a few shots of my RSV4 tonight - its been sat in the garage for the last 4 months or so....(59 plate) and about 9k on the clock...
Heres a snap of my 675R. It was a launch/test bike in use from October 2012 so the chain in that photo is near enough around 2 years old. Will snap the 899 when out at lunch. It's chain is 3 months old on the 21st Feb.
Why not use the "Ask an Expert" on Ducs official suppliers' website and ask them why their fasteners are so shite Standard Fasteners | Anixter Ducati - Official Suppliers
You have to wonder at the mind set of maufacturers that sign off on hugely expensive R&D, push a model line through from CAD to a production run but when chosing fasteners etc pauses, searches his suppliers and goes for the one that will make his product look like a furry rust bucket quicker than it takes him/her to fill in an expense claim for drinks at his favourite spa on the Amalfi coast! It's like sticking a red nose on the Mona Lisa! You just wouldn't would you?
