1200 Press Launch Of 2015 Multistrada 1200 Dvt

  2. I'd like to know where did the extra weight go to. Is it the chassis? is it the motor (and its surrounding parts)? Is it the exhaust? And will it have a negative effect on performance/handling despite the small increase in power?

  3. I know the new Mutley has changed engine covers and a changed dash; so that's 2 potential problems sorted (fingers crossed). (I had my cases and dash and rad and engine parts replaced FOC due to rubbish build etc etc)
    Big fail was the rear brake and overall finish of the parts (metal). If they can be sorted then I'd be very happy and would seriously look at a new one.
     
  4. +1 for the cam belts. On a bike like the Mutley where the mileages tend to be higher because it's much more usable the cost of a belt service is a big hit.

  5. Agree with your comment ref 'off road' ability and exactly why I bought 2013 Skyhook Touring in preference to a GS. What's so wrong with 'sport-touring' these days anyway, forget "Adventure". I traded in my Triumph Sprint ST1050 (owned all the Sprints before that too) 'cos I wanted a bit more comfort in my old age, but like most I've no intention of going off-road with a £16k bike.
    Riding the MTS has been great (3k tour of Europe, didn't miss a beat, comfy, fun, fast)....ownership? a whole different ball game!
    Gave the 2015 a good look over at the show....observations:-
    1. Are all test riders pigeon toed or foot amputees? Centre stand position has been tweaked slightly but still in the way, similar problem with Monster (BMW 1000XR nearly as bad)
    2. Switches that work would be preferable to fancy ones that are back lit, I hope those at the show were pre-production, they felt particularly poor quality
    3. I see we now have a separate hazard light switch (I'm still irritated by the hazards coming on every dozen or so left turns, about time we had the software fixed!)
    4. Front brake pipe looked to be re-routed on some of the bikes (had my L fork leg replaced and modified it myself with some Ventureshield)
    5. Instruments on my bike mist up at any hint of cool weather, any chance the new ones will stay clear?
    6. Shame we lost the front fairing cubby hole, I use that for the petrol cap key. Maybe they'll fit the keyless cap as standard.
    7. Everyone gets off a bike to the left side, so why's the pillion seat lock on the right? Maybe that should be keyless too.
    8. Rear indicators & number plate light to be LED too please, no need for spare bulb set in Europe then.
    9. Stainless fasteners please.... it's supposed to be a premium bike
    I'm still looking for a fun, comfortable sports-tourer with European style.......that's not a pain in the arse to own.

  7. Another +1 for longer belt/valve-check intervals, servicing costs and reliability issues (perceived or real) are the biggest turn off and main reason to look at alternatives
     
  8. One thing I forgot, decent wind protection please that we don't have to feck about with developing our own. Should be sorted from the factory.

  9. What is the tank range fully laden?
    Will there be a factory accessory for fitting sat nav above the clocks?
    Will the top box from the earlier models fit or will we have to buy a new adapter kit?

    • Rear Brake, Has it got one?
    • Is the DVT a gimmick? Does it smooth out the Engine at Low revs
    • Has the Centre Stand been re-designed so that it does not obstruct the Left foot?
    • Will Existing Luggage fit the new model?

  11. There is an update for this version 009 should be checked when you have your service or whenever your bike goes into the dealer

Thanks for the info bolds, last time I was at the dealer (GT Plymouth) in October I made a point of asking and was told it was still unavailable (earlier posts here had reported confusion over availability and whether the fix actually worked). GT are not overly pro-active (still have an unresolved warranty issue), and I haven't bothered chasing it up as the bike usually ends up staying in the garage Nov.- Apr. It's also a 3 hour round trip to my nearest dealer, hence my irritation over the several warranty issues I've had. :Grumpy:
    If we're being pedantic the Desmo service is 24,000kms (15,000mls), every other year in my case. All my previous bikes have worked quite well with chains, lasting longer than I keep a bike (usually about 5yrs), this keeps maintenance costs down.
    Still love riding the Mutley, just finding ownership less enjoyable. :)
     
  13. I thought you were talking about the new model, which is 30,000 Kms for a Desmo service all the other ones now go on time and have less procedures quite a lot different to the current one

  14. Ask them if they expect secondhand values to tank as badly as on their 2010 model?
     
  15. Something I noticed on the show bike today was that the riders seat seemed to have a lot of forward and backward movement in it. It may have just been a pre-production model, but it would be good if you to check it's solid on the press bikes.
     
  16. Apologies bolds, I hadn't noticed the improvement in service intervals for the new engine, at least they're heading in the right direction. But.....

    Andy, most interesting question to ask is....
    When they're putting low maintenance cam chains on the Panigale, where the average owner probably only does 2,000mls a year, why keep belts on the Multistrada? The average Multi' owner is probably going to do 4 or 5 times that, I'd like to hear their logic in that decision. :confused:
    When doing a fair bit of redesign to incorporate DVT why not move to chain at the same time, or is that pencilled in for 2017's must have up-date? ;)

  17. Hi Andy. We met once on Kirky's ride from Bensen to On Yer Bike.
    Most points are covered above, but I believe that both radiators should be fitted with guards as standard. Especially when you consider the ridiculously short front mudguard which directs stones straight on to the coolant radiator.
    Apart from that a proper, authoritative sounding, horn, worthy of such a fine machine, should come as standard.

    I look forward to your review, presumably in MCN.

  18. Thanks to everyone who has contributed so far. I will be cutting and pasting a load of these (and cutting back on any repeats) to get a document I can have as part of a section of the launch report which I think is scheduled to go into the March 11 issue of the paper.
     
  19. Finish and corrosion protection. Can it PLEASE be consumerate with the premium bike it is!

    And be able to remove the rear wheels without taking the exhaust off would be a big benefit
