999 What Have I Done?

Discussion in '749 / 999' started by 531AL, Feb 14, 2015.

  1. buy or make a test light or better still a multimeter check at the starter solenoid or bridge solenoid

  2. Have tried bypass wire from diagnostic connector still the same.

  3. forget about bypass the now. check for a voltage at your starter solenoid, try bridging the two heavy wires on the solenoid.

  4. The main fuse is a Maxi blade. A good motor factors should have one (Eurocarparts do them).

change the two fuses by the battery box. 3 amp for ECU and 20 amp for injectors.

What error codes do you get if you hold the left dash button down when you switch the ignition on. Keep it held down and the codes will cycle.

  5. The diagnostic earth mod is only applicable if the bike starts but the EOBD light is on and the fans running.

  6. So you have changed the blown fuse , the dash goes through its sequence and the pump primes but there's nothing on the starter button. The kill switch is switched on isn't it . Not trying to be a smartie but we have all left it off at some time .

  7. Would that leave the warning light on the dash?

  8. There is a diode on the side stand wiring that may also have blown. Unfortunately it is now a long process of elimination.

  9. Yep kill switch on.. will check error code

  10. Got error codes:
    EF1
    Error 19.2 17.2

  11. 19.2 starter solenoid shorted to earth

17.2 left hand fan shorted to earth

  12. Does the brake light flash on when you use the front brake lever and does the horn work?

IIRC, these items are on the same circuit as the starter solenoid and all share the same 20A fuse. If that fuse has gone, you won't be able operate the two items I mention above, plus the bike won't start.

  13. Doesn't the kill switch still allow the engine to turn over but without firing???

  14. Mine dosen't . When the kill switch is off it doesn't turn over.

  15. I
I might be thinking of my old SS then...

  16. If the regulator/rectifier is buggered, there's one for a 749/999 in the for sale section on this site at £15.00 delivered.

  17. thanks for offer I have a spare a regulator rectifier somewhere in the garage.

I've replaced the 40 amp 25 amp and 5 amp fuses still nothing from starter, not even a click from the solanoid.
The brake light and horn are working... Are there any other fuses I can't see?

Struggling to get the battery box off to gain access to the starter as one of the allen bolts is rounded. Has anyone got a spare battery box they can sell me?

    Thanks

  18. Not sure about the fuses but if the allen bolt is really rounded, driving a torx bit in there might get you enough grip to get it out, especially if you can get some purchase on the outside of the bolt as well with some pliers or whatever.
Why do you need a new battery box - are you thinking you might have to destroy this one to get it out??

Can you apply some current to the starter motor and maybe the solenoid to see if they work?
Not if you're unsure about the polarity though, obviously...

Iirc, the starter motor terminals are on the r/h side of the bike, away from the battery box but the solenoid isn't, it's behind the box.

  19. Nothing to do with connecting the battery but have you checked the little white plug in the back of the solenoid, it has a habit of coming loose.
