the horror stories on here are making me paranoid ,having just bought one i want to hear good news story any one had a multi and its been trouble free and a complete joy ? ,,,heres hoping
Ducati has sold something like 40,000 Multistrada's. If you take all of the complaints on all of the forums, my guess is there would be no more than 200, that would be half a percent! In my case I have had my 2012 for just over 2 years, done 20,000 km with zero issues.
Had the the various bits and bobs done (coolant change, front forks shimmed and the rear brake given a magic shake each service so I can feel what it should be able to do - sadly goes back to normal by the time I reach the lights 100m up the hill from my dealership though ) BUT not a single problem since I bought it in 2012. It's been a blast. Worry when it happens not before - that just spoils the journey......
Standard 2013 with 13k miles. Two decent sized Alps trips and Scottish tour, all at a decent pace, included. Complete reliability with the exception of replacement heated grips which I don't consider to be a reliability issue.
Standard 2010 model, only done just under 6000 miles but no problems at all so far mechanical or electrical . Only time it went back to the dealer was for the rear brake upgrade (which made no difference, its still shite & apart from the seating position is the only thing I dislike about bike)
2010 model, quite a few mods, decat QD exhaust, remap and some bling! Only had a ABS recall in the early days apart from that it's been brilliant, and I can't think of a better bike for my needs, unless a test ride on the new one blows me away..? But will have to be much better for me to want to change.....?
I would suggest a better guesstimate to reliability would be, is how many Multi's sold here (GB), how many of them owners are not on this forum and then compare that to how many complaints there are on this forum about Multi ownership issues, and that might throw up a different percentage.
2013 model 12500 carefree, exhilarating, utterly fantastic miles, but me fuel sensors just started playing up which, considering what we've been through together is small biscuits, I picked her up new in a March snowstorm and rode her through the snow from ducati Newcastle to the highlands of Scotland. I'm currently down in Marbella having ridden over snow covered passes and torrential rain also some sunshine, I'm riding home to barcelona on Monday hoping the forecast is right 17 degrees. Stop worrying about faults or problems, go buy one, you'll love it and your worth it.
2013 Pikes Peak model, exhaust valve failure due to lack of maintenance. Note neither the dealer nor the user is told to keep it lubricated. If it jams open...no fault is shown (older models 2010-2012 you get a fault). You can just disconnect the cable and the exhaust valve springs open (assuming the spring isn't too rusty). 5300 miles so far....an all ok.... I love these bikes and my next bike will be a Mutley. Oh and the rear brake is Shite...but I've given up complaining. Hazard lights operate on 10-20th right turn, probably more of an issue on the continent. 3 software upgrades later and it still does it.
I have to agree. Those saying they have in the thread then add a caveat such as "my only issuse" or "apart from". Does that then no make the short answer no ? Got to admit, that logic makes no sense at all
im a happy bunny, no problems with my 2014 MTS 1200 GT, mate has a pikes peak and Brother in law a standard MTS 1200, all happy
Had few minor issues, Left fork scratched, lost a few bolts from top box brace and eaten a little oil. Got it all sorted by pro twin free of charge - wished I brought it from them, I recon I wouldn't have had any issues then. Still absolutely love the big though. 3500miles on clock and due first service and probs new set of tyres next month at a sting of nearly £550. They aren't cheap and need looking after but they are great, u'll love it.
Is any new Ducati cheap?!... apart from that cheap looking new scrambler thingy, but I suspect most serious motorcyclists won't consider buying one one of those! .... I'm sure it's been said on here a thousand times - when you buy a Ducati it's not going to be cheap to run either - but I also suspect we are all adults and we understand that before we buy into the breed ...
I dunno, I think you may be wrong about the scrambler. I don't think the usual suspects looking a dukes will like it as is but I think it lends itself to modification quite nicely, imagine it with some spokes and clip-ons, I think it will look sweet so to the fetlers out there that would like a cheap duke I recon it will appeal.
Less 1 yr old, 8.5k Miles so far, only issues wobbly rear indicators, and start button sticking, both repaired under warranty, although the start button has since mess around couple of times
I like the look of some of the Scramblers, had a closer look at the show but there is a huge difference in build quality in the other bikes in my view, I see some rusty horrible paintwork appearing after a yr or 2, and do not like the clutch cable
