hi i would like to sell my ducati 748 its done 9000 miles never rode in the rain immaculate showroom condition 2003 the best example ive seen for the year open to offers ?
im waiting for a nice 748 to come up cheap but since im in no rush at all then ill wait for as long as it takes. If it never does then ill keep saving for a 916 varient. One thing i have noticed is some bikes being for sale for months even years. Top money for a 748 seems to be 3500-4k at a dealer and i mean top top money. So private sales in my eyes must be at least 2500-3000 for a top condition/history bike. Not many people can be bothered with the servicing of a old ducati and the ones who can be are usually more interested in the better spec'd or a rarer bikes. Now that a 848 can be had for £5k ish and have much better service and reliability then i think that alone will continue to push vlaues down a bit more of vanilla bikes.
I think it looks a really nice clean bike and if it's got good service history should be worth £3000 a bit more if you are prepared to wait a while for the right buyer. I have had mine now for five years and haven't noticed any sign of them depreciating other than the old nails that haven't been looked after. Steve
Keep it mate! you will only regret selling. they dont go for much but are a cracking bike. get some use out of it or wrap it in bubble wrap for 10-15 years and maybe make a killing!
I agree, it's too nice a bike to give away for crap gixxer money. It's always going to live in the 916's shadow but those of us who know 748's know their true worth. One day the tide will turn and clean 748's will be much sought after imho. Mothball job.
Ha, do you remember the time when you could buy an ex GPO bantam for about 30 bob out of the back of the depot, so comparatively that ain't a bad deal!! Considering they're now fetching what £2-3K?? for mint ones!!! :Wtf: I wish I'd bought a hundred or so ... All I was really saying is it worth selling such a nice clean 748 for gixxer money - it's a bit like someone offering you less than half the original asking price for your bevel today, you'd tell em to go fuck em selves. Massively underrated bike imho, alas, if that's all it's worth, that's all it's worth ... I wouldn't have the heart :Arghh:
It should be in your messages if not send me your contact number and I will call you in the morning thank you jon
You can pick up standard 916s or 996s for around the same money as a good 748, there's flipping 20hp difference with a bit of cylinder boring, there's bugger all difference, ones more revvy, one's more torquey. I was talking to a Ducati mechanic just after Christmas, he said Ducati's are up at the moment, people are always looking for a good low mileage 748, he'd had someone considering more or less a direct swap for an 848. There's always some twit with a litre bike obsession who will try and knock it because they can't have anything but the largest capacity.. You've got to love an underdog especially when it's this gorgeous. It'd flog the life out of a rattly old bevel to boot
You'd only be looking for the 'rare' model 748s if you didn't actually intend to ride them, you'd be paying out even more in the servicing and you'd have almost no benefit on the road, which twit needs to fiddle with his Ohlins preload or his rake settings before he goes out for a ride with some friends, no one.
My first disagree on here, I feel so honoured. First of all there's no need to get so defensive about 748's and peoples opinions. Judging by your username you own one, or used to. Secondly , like it or not but its a budget version of its bigger brother. It was cheaper when new , and they fetch less second hand. Picking an advert that is 2-3k overpriced doesn't justify your argument. Look on eBay for a idea of what they are actually selling for. And I certainly wouldn't be swapping a 848 for one that's for sure. If truth be known anyone in their right mind wouldn't buy a 748 for future , as they would never be worth as much as a 916/996 etc. but since I don't really want to pump £5k plus into another bike when I've already got my 1199 and monster to use then that's the bike I quite fancy. It's like dating a porn stars twin sister, it looks the same but is less dirty (powerful) In terms of playing with preload and rake, then I could comment on what you do, but a lot of riders have their preload and the rest of their suspension set up for them at some point. On a old 748 servicing to a certain extent wouldn't be too much of a concern. I'd do most bits myself and then the more in depth bit I have Cornerspeed local. Since it wouldn't get ridden often then I wouldn't be servicing it on the dot every year. Lastly, have a disagree lol
You certainly talk a load of rubbish, I'll give you that. The adverts were in response to the post saying that all 748 models including the SPS and R are selling for less than a 916, clearly that was not the case even for a standard biposto. The 916 was the older mans choice / conventional choice and still is. Ducati themselves note both cost the same to manufacture, the 916 was overpriced to suit the market (40+ born-again with need to have a litre bike to fit in with his friends), read up on what Neil Spalding has to say on the 748, ring around some dealerships on price. By your grumpy little reply I get the feeling you're the guy with his monoposto and romper suit who does like to fiddle with his 'race setup' rather than someone with a hot Mrs on the back out enjoying the road. I know what I'd rather be on, something with a bit of character and the alternative choice.
