Hi guys....i have a Ducati 853RS which started life as a 748R...from new !! and still love it...needless to say its far from stock and puts out 138bhp on our dyno...yes we have a dyno ! 2 in fact. Missing the bike...its currently going back together after a busy year on the track...finishing off with 4 days in Almeria
Hi and welcome. Seems I'm about 12 months behind you as I've just fitted a 748RS motor into my R and bought an EVR 853 conversion which I intend fitting after running the 748 for this year. Andy
Hi Andy sounds interesting...I've had this bike from new 2001 and I think we have found a great recipe and its been very reliable and puts out superb figures Hi Andy sounds interesting....I tried the RS cams and the trade off in torque and reliability didn't make sense long term....we came up with a great recipe and it's been a dream
Yes, been thinking about R cams for reliability instead of restricting the revs. Currently running the RS to a max of 10750 to 11000. I have a build thread on here but using de-restricted throttle bodies and 848/1098 injectors with a full Termignoni titanium 54mm race system making a fraction over 120 and 58 lbs ft torque. Cartagena in just over 4 weeks will be the first outing and I'm really looking forward to it although 4 days on track is going to challenge my fitness. Andy
Take pain killers... Lol Should be a lot of fun...a little tip....use Castrol RS 10/60 it's for cars...don't ask it just works and looks after those cams and rockers...
The engines going back in and i guess well be back on track mid April weather permitting...anyone do Croft at all ?
That's an interesting tip. Had a quick surf on t'internet and there are some divided opinions. 10w 60 is very viscose at cold temperatures but maintains a higher viscosity at high temperatures usually 130 C. I guess being on track the oil temperature is going to be higher and 40 or 50 oils will be thinner and potentially less lubricating ? I see RS is no longer available and has been replaced by Edge Sport but thanks for the tip. Andy PS- last time at Cartagena I was alternating Paracetamol and Ibuprofen every 2 hours and my garage buddies were helping me on and off the bike on day 3 !
Yes pain killers...a wonderful invention. Yes that oil in miraculous...and with RS cams i would say its a must....my bikes can go years without needing re-shimming and its only ever on the track....being in the trade and working on bikes and cars i think we are able to share ideas and try things others wouldnt...this one has without doubt allowed me to own a Ducati for all these years...
